It gets more and more interesting – review of the comic “Dimension W”, vol. 5-8

The first four volumes of Dimension W were surprising. They announced an interesting adventure in alternative world of Japan. Are the next volumes equally good? Maybe even better? I will try to answer these questions in the review below.

Volume 5: A prince on a mission

The prince of the African country Isla, Salva Tibesti, visits Japan. In addition to being a monarch, he also holds the position of director of a robot manufacturing company. Under the pretext of meetings with important personalities, the ruler plans to learn about the events that took place on Easter Island. However, this task will not be easy to complete. The island and its surroundings are strictly forbidden to enter, and it is guarded by New Tesla Energy. Meanwhile, Kyouma lives relatively peacefully with Mira. However, as it happens in life, the idyll cannot last forever. The trouble begins when Kyouma meets a boy chased by armed men in the street. It turns out that he is Prince Salva’s younger brother.

In volume five, we not only learn about the events of Easter Island and the new heroes and their motivations, but also move into Mabuchi’s past. From the flashback we will find out how he met his wife and what caused his hatred of the links. Compared to the previous volumes, there is definitely less action here, and the pages are filled with dialogue and events that push the story forward. There is no question of boredom, after reading you want more.

Volume 6: Expedition to Easter Island

Prince Salva goes with a group of collectors to Easter Island. However, someone really cares that their trip would be unsuccessful. There is an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the ruler, which does not seem surprised. However, the problems don’t end there: the ship on which the heroes travel is attacked. As a result of the attack, some of the crew, including the prince, lose consciousness and have no contact with them. The direction of the expedition falls on the shoulders of the Prince Lion. When you get there, things get even more complicated. All those lost in the island’s accident are raised from the dead. The race for the link indicated by the prince begins, and Kyouma and Mira also become part of it.

In the sixth volume, we will experience some drama, and there will also be new puzzles to solve. Why does Prince Salvie need the missing link? What attacked the ship going to Easter Island? Mabuchi and Mira go to a little background here, and in their place we can get to know the group of collectors considered to be the best of the best.

Volume 7: The Secret Organization

After the events of the previous volume, one would like to immediately return to the events on the island. Unfortunately, the creator of Yuji Iwahara has other plans for the reader. The seventh installment of the manga begins with a story about an ancient organization called Eudos dealing with … insurance. We get to know some of its members, including the mysterious man who wanted all participants of the Easter Island expedition to die. We don’t quite know what’s going on yet, but I think money is a reasonable premise. It’s not my favorite piece, luckily it ends pretty quickly. Kyouma and Mira along with a group of collectors continue their journey in search of a link. Soon Mabuchi stumbles upon Loser – another collector operating under the guise of an art thief. The loser sends a ball on the hero causing him to return to the events before the expedition. It turns out,

This time, the number of events and information can make you dizzy. However, this is not something that a little more focus would not fix. The seventh volume definitely fuels the appetite for the sequel.

Volume 8: Things get complicated

Mabuchi begins wandering through her memories, while at the same time Mira and the collectors are fighting for survival. The situation seems to worsen every moment, and as if that weren’t enough, the Eudos man “brings to life” an army of zombies to get rid of all link seekers.

The eighth volume is full of action, we see a lot of duels in it, which are replaced from time to time by short trips into the past. The author runs his story very effectively, which makes you want to know what to do immediately.

A few words about the editions

As far as the graphics and the quality of the release are concerned, practically nothing has changed in relation to the first four volumes. Each subsequent part is decorated with a dust jacket with shiny elements. Inside you will find several pages in full color, printed on chalky paper, and at the end you will find accessories that allow, among others, for a better understanding of the world represented. I have no objections to the quality of the print and the Polish translation.

Summary

I don’t remember the last time the manga hooked me as much as Dimension W. A very interesting world full of secrets and very interesting heroes are just a few reasons why this series is worth continuing. Each subsequent volume increases the appetite for more, and if this pace is maintained until the very end, I will be extremely happy. Already at this point, I feel that I am experiencing something really special. It’s scary to think what will happen next.
