Ghosts of the 20th century
Book Paranormal. True Haunting Storieshas been divided into six chapters, each set in a different period. We start from the present day, i.e. from 2017, and visit the town of Turza Wielka, where there is a haunted house, and trips to a psychiatric hospital, where crosses not only fell from the walls, but were also able to levitate. Chapter 2 is already a significant jump in time, which takes us to the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when the ghost of a countess was seen. The author also tells about the murder of a famous actress – Maria Wisnowska. Chapter 3 is a story from the times of World War II and the psychiatric hospital for Jews in Zofiówka. We can learn about the amazing events that took place during the T4 action. Then we move to the post-war period and to the town of Przytoń, where there was a slaughter of Germans resettled there, and Konstancin-Jeziorna and the police station in which the NKVD and UB used to work. The fifth chapter concerns the times of the People’s Republic of Poland. We get to know the story of two mysterious brothers and the crosses set by one of them, a haunted house that causes aggression in people, and a mischievous spirit capable of, among others, steal another’s eggs. The last of the chapters is the 1980s and the story of a condemned housing estate. It was there that a series of suicides took place.
Restless spirit
First, I must express my appreciation to the author of the book – Michał Stonawski. He really did his best to tell us extremely interesting stories from all over Poland and from different periods. However, these are not stories downloaded somewhere from the Internet and only slightly changed. Stonawski traveled the country, looked for source materials, talked to witnesses of these events, collected everything together and put it on paper. So he must have spent a lot of time on it and did his research really honestly before the results came to us. Also, I really like the way it presents all the events. Not for a moment does he make fun of anyone who believes in paranormal phenomena without trying to convince us that all these things really happened. He remains a neutral narrator. We are to decide whether we believe in ghosts or not. Thus, everyone can approach the book in their own way. Bravo, Mr. Michał!
Spirit of inspiration
Paranormal. True Haunting Stories is a book for fans of this type of phenomena, but not only. In addition to the story of supernatural phenomena, you can find many other interesting plots in it. I was personally very intrigued by the story about the already mentioned Maria Wisnowska. I once heard the name of this actress, but it was only after reading this book that I delved into its history. The same applies to the hospital in Zofiówka. I believe that many people, like me, may become more interested in the stories of these places and people.
When it comes to seekers and admirers of paranormal events, they get an extremely interesting guide. The author precisely defines the places of events. So we can go to a given town or even to a given address and see the haunted building with our own eyes.
Unfortunately, Paranormal is not a position for people who like to be afraid. The author does not try to scare us, but only to provide us with the information he has collected. Yes, there are two or three moments in the book that make our hair bristle on our heads, but that would be it. The rest is read more like a documentary or a fiction based on facts (because Stonawski uses both types of narrative alternately). So it’s not a ghost horror movie that some might expect.
Lekkoduch
Paranormal. True Haunting Storiesit is read quickly and lightly. This is a very good springboard from heavy positions. However, we still get very interesting stories that can encourage us to get to know them from a wider perspective, and maybe even organize a trip? Unfortunately, the position did not avoid a few mistakes. Already in the first chapter, the consistency of the names was not ensured, as a result of which we have Marcin there, who changes into Mariusz. At the end, on the other hand, we get a story that breaks off in the middle and we return to it after a dozen or so pages. There is no specific purpose to this and it merely introduces unnecessary chaos in the continuity of events. But apart from these two drawbacks, there is nothing to fault here. The author really went the extra mile to get the information and provided it to the reader brilliantly. So if you are looking for a pleasant reading for your vacation, I definitely recommend itParanormal. True Haunting Stories .
