Is a unicorn more suitable as a nanny or a disco ball? – review of the comic book “Fibi and the unicorn. Hats off “, vol. 7

In the seventh installment of the adventures of an ironic girl and her even-hoofed friend, we discover, among other things, that Dakota also approached a magical creature, and the unicorn should not necessarily become a nanny. Of course, every situation receives a comment from Fibi and Marigold, and we, as readers, have a great time listening to them.

Although the title of Fibi and the unicorn has been present on the Polish market for a long time, the next volumes manage to maintain a high level of a mixture of good humor and life situations. The newest part also does not stand out in this respect, so the current readers will certainly not be disappointed with it, and new readers will consider buying earlier albums after reading it.

What is the meaning of life?

American cartoonist Dana Simpson successfully continues to create short, humorous stories about an overly perceptive and intelligent nine-year-old and a selfish unicorn. The volume Hats off to once again gives us a peek at what life is like when there is a magical pet in it. Fibi and Marigold raise issues such as the meaning of life, modesty and online behavior. By default, a lot of the conversation turns to why unicorns are amazing, Dakota still doesn’t want a Fibi ceasefire, and Max turns out to have problems at school. There is much less mention of FIbi’s alienation and her problems in this album, much more light and humorous stories, e.g. about Marigold’s tail chasing, frisking in leaves or dressing up for Halloween.

Sometimes serious, but mostly fun

In the case of the seventh volume, it is difficult to write something innovative. As already mentioned, it is still fun and the author maintains a light form of communication even on more difficult issues (such as bullying at school). The drawing style does not change, the characters’ characters do not evolve in any significant way and are consistently the same as in the previous parts. However, this immutability also works the other way around – nothing in this series suddenly breaks down or fails. We get exactly what the author got used to.

Good and steady

With Fibi and Marigold it is like with the next volumes of Garfield ‘s adventures – they are read for relaxation, and both adults and children can find something for themselves in them. It is worth reaching if you are looking for something light and uncomplicated.

Still a worthy series, worth recommending to children.
