An Indiana Jones spin-off said to be in the works for Disney+ has been crated and taken to a museum of canceled projects. In November, news broke that Disney and Lucasfilm were working on a TV series set in the world of traveling archaeologist and adventurer Harrison Ford. All while the studios prepare the fifth Indiana Jones movie , directed by James Mangold – Shield of Destiny. Jeff Sneider suggested that the series was intended as a prequel to 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark.It would have focused on Indy’s unseen mentor, Abner Ravenwood, an Egyptologist and archaeologist who is already dead by the time of the events of the first film in 1936.
According to Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast , an untitled Indiana Jones spin-off has been shelved and Disney reportedly handed over to Lucasfilm for the studio to focus on Star Wars . The report came after the station canceled Willow , after one season on Disney+ . It was a sequel to Lucasfilm’s 1988 fantasy series of the same name.
The potential series would be the second TV show to air after The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles , creator George Lucas’ prequel starring Corey Carrier and Sean Patrick Flanery as younger versions of the characters. Ford appeared in one episode in the series booked episodes with George Hall as 93-year-old Indy.
Disney and Lucasfilm are expected to announce a lineup of Star Wars movies at Star Wars Celebration in April, including an untitled film from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. It will be reworked by Steven Knight following the sudden departures of co-writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Indiana Jones and the Shield of Destiny will be Lucasfilm’s first theatrical release since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. 2019 revival .
Lucasfilm’s legacy in recent years has been fueled by Disney+, Star Wars live-action and animated series , including the flagship The Mandalorian, Boba Fett spin-off , and upcoming series Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew and The Acolyte. The studio is also producing the two-season Rogue 1 prequel Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi, as well as the animated Star Wars: Bad Match , Visions, and Tales of the Jedi.
Indiana Jones and the Shield of Destiny will star Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Toby Jones and Mads Mikkelsen. The Disney/Lucasfilm film hits theaters on June 30. Check out the trailer below.
