Everything has to come to an end sometime, and so will Steven Spielberg and the Indiana Jones series. The famous director decided not to shoot the newest part of the adventures of the charismatic archaeologist and adventurer. According to the latest reports, there is already a potential successor.
According to reports from Variety, negotiations with James Mangold are currently underway so that he will take over the reins of production. Spielberg is to remain associated with the series, but this time only as a producer. For films about the adventures of Indiana Jones, this is a great change, as the creator of, among others, ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind directed all four previous parts.
According to a source related to Spielberg, the decision to resign was entirely his. The famous director decided to release the director’s seat of Indiana Jones 5 so that a new generation of creators could tell the story in their own way. Perhaps it will be a good decision for the entire series, especially since the previous film – The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – was the worst-rated film ever shot.
If Mangold actually takes over the director’s position, he may turn out to be a worthy successor to a well-known colleague. The creator of the great Logan has, among others, also productions such as Walk the Line , 3:10 to Yuma , or Le Mans ’66 . The last of the mentioned films received four nominations for this year’s Oscars, including Best Film (eventually he won two statuettes for Best Editing and Best Sound Editing).
After numerous changes to the release date, Indiana Jones 5 is currently announced for July next year.
