A well-known story in a comic book format
Greek mythology is an unfathomable source of inspiration. Thanks to the omnipotent gods, terrifying monsters and steadfast heroes, the reader gets to know another world, the truths of which constitute an invaluable lesson for mankind. Topics oscillating around the broadly understood mythology appear in the lessons of the Polish language; However, the content provided is not always interesting for students. The comics of Antigone and Daedalus and Icarus are a chance for teachers who want to motivate their students to explore the mysteries of mythology. We can perceive the volumes published by Egmont as independent (you do not need to know the original to understand the content), and after reading – in addition to Luc Ferry – we can read the afterword. Both Daedalus and Icarus , and Antigonethe text was filled in by the artist and cartoonist Clotilde Bruneau, while the drawings were made by cartoonists from Italy: Giulia Pellegrini ( Daedalus and Icarus ) and Giuseppe Baiguera ( Antigone ). The Polish translation of both volumes was prepared by Ernest Kacperski.
The plot is known to everyone
In the first volume of the series “The World of Myths” – Daedalus and Icarus– we learn the story of the genius architect Daedalus, who – following the order of the king of Crete, Minos – builds a labyrinth-prison for the Minotaur, a monster born by the ruler’s wife, Pazyfae. As a result of an unfortunate coincidence, the creator and his son, Icarus, are trapped in a cursed building and condemned to wandering for life through the most elaborate labyrinth of corridors that man could invent. The second story tells the story of a fratricidal struggle – after the death of their father, Oedipus, Polinic and Eteocles decide to share the power; when one of the brothers does not keep their word, fate tells them both. The youths uncle, Creon, recognizes Polinic as a traitor and murderer of Eteocles, and then forbids the burying of his body. When a sister of brothers opposes such a resolution, the tragic end seems a matter of time. Stories told in comics, fate , they try to stop fate before it conspires against them. Man’s fate is uncertain, and the gods are not always appeased.
The most beautiful series of Egmont?
Myth World series is undoubtedly one of the publisher’s most beautiful offers. Hardcover volumes are stories we know from school; however, it should be emphasized that in the refreshed edition it is much more pleasant to read. The title characters appear on the covers of the volumes, and inside – on the end paper – we can admire the Greek gods (including Demeter, Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Hestia, Ares and others). Perhaps this is a signal for the reader that in the future there will be many thematic volumes that will remind us of the stories of individual characters known from myths. I recommend the reviewed series to everyone, without exception; is a gem on the comic market!
