Nikodem Rozbicki is a Polish actor whom you may know from such productions as Bejbi blues , Letters to M. , Singielka or the two newest parts of the cult comedy Kogel-Mogel . Recently, he also tried his hand at dubbing and lent his voice to the title character of the animated film Kurozając and the Riddle of the Dark Hamster . He decided to talk to our editor about his new role.
Piotr Markiewicz: Is it more difficult to play in front of the camera or with the voice? Or maybe it cannot be compared?
Nikodem Rozbicki: These are completely different forms of creation. I am used to film standards, but working in dubbing requires an actor, and at the same time provides a lot of satisfaction.
PM: How did you prepare for the role? Have you watched the original dubbed version? Or maybe a mute one?
NR: I was watching excerpts from the original version. During the implementation, it is normal to look at the prototype.
PM: Was the work on the voice role as you imagined it? What surprised you the most?
NR: What surprised me the most was how exhausting the dubbing job is. Sometimes, after a 3-hour session, it felt like a whole day on the set.
PM: How does work on an animation set look like? Are the dialogues recorded individually or maybe together with the person with whom the dialogue is conducted?
NR: Everyone is recording separately. Sometimes with a recorded partner. As far as I know there is no rule here.
PM: What are your impressions of the movie premiere? Are you satisfied with the end result?
NR: At the premiere, I got a huge dose of positive energy from the kids. It’s nice to make a contribution to the world that children are fascinated with. I consider the movie itself a good adventure game with a moral. Something I liked the most as a kid.
PM: How does it feel to hear your own voice in someone else’s mouth?
NR: It’s quite a nice feeling. Especially when at some point that character without your voice is no longer that character.
PM: Curious, especially at the beginning, reminds us of Indiana Jones . Did you try to somehow relate to the character played by Harrison Ford?
NR: I have not tried, although it is an analogy that gives the atmosphere of the whole story. Privately, I am a fan of the Indiana Jones series , the more willingly I joined this project.
PM: Were there any moments of improvisation during the recording? Maybe you managed to “smuggle something” away?
NR: I think a lot of this stuff made it into the final release. During the recordings, the director said several times: “This is a proposal that goes beyond the norm, but I like it. We take! ”.
PM: Do you intend to dub more characters in the future?
NR: I’d love to!
