About a myth
Katharsis, tragic irony, hybris, hamartia … and king Oedipus – the one who was not allowed to experience happiness. To avoid the fall of Thebes, foreseen by the oracle, King Laius and his wife Jocasta forsake their newborn son, Oedipus, for certain death. The child is saved by shepherds who want to please their master – the king of Corinth, Polibus and his wife Merope (they are unsuccessfully trying to get biological offspring). The prince grows up and becomes more and more aware of his situation; but he knows nothing about the family’s curse. During one of the sumptuous feasts, a random participant calls the protagonist a “bastard”, then he begins to wonder about his origin and possible adoption. In order to find the truth, Oedipus goes to the oracle of Delphi, who tells him about his terrible destiny: he will kill his father and marry his mother. The terrified hero, convinced that he is the son of the king of Corinth, decides to run away and do everything possible to prevent the fulfillment of the prophecy. He does not know, however, that in this way it will only accelerate its realization.
Subjectively
