Mercy goes on a European vacation. A little against her own will, because in fact she is kidnapped by a team of vampires on behalf of the strongest and most cunning of them – Iacopo Bonarata. Of course, Coyote’s daughter, as always, manages to escape the clutches of bloodsuckers, but the specter of the threat remains, so she tries to be in constant motion. At the same time, her partner does not remain indifferent. Adam gathers a rescue team: vampires – Marsilla and Stefan, the witch Elizaweta, the werewolf Honey and several other heroes, and sets off towards Europe to rescue his beloved. The situation is difficult for everyone. On the one hand, the group wants to find Coyote’s daughter and take care of her safety, on the other hand, they must follow political conventions so as not to upset Bonaranta. As if that was not enough,
From the sanctuary, the head does not hurt
What significantly distinguishes the tenth volume from the earlier Mercedes stories is the fact that this time the plot is not only presented from the perspective of Thompson, but also of her husband. Each chapter is preceded by a short note with the main character’s commentary on when the events take place. Some of the scenes take place at the same time but in different locations (depending on where Mercy is and where Adam is), so the story is richer than usual. Another interesting trick is the reference to the history of Europe, in particular Prague, and the legend of the golem created by the rabbi. Mercy also does not spare us descriptions and curiosities from the areas where he is staying, which is why, apart from the plot, we get a small tourist trip. The pace of the events is nicely balanced: some action, some calm.
Maybe a werewolf bite?
Cold-blooded fans should be very pleased as there are a lot of them in this part. We have the opportunity to learn about the customs and behavior prevailing at the court of the vampire ruler (as well as his taste for drinking werewolf blood). Of course, some new canids (pack from Europe) also appear in the history, but the bloodsuckers are in the foreground here. It is noteworthy that Briggs extends and closes several threads in this book (concerning, among others, the relationship between Marsilla and Iacopo or the story of a werewolf, who turned out to be the cause of a dispute between Marrok and Alpha from Prague). Fans will appreciate this new set of information.
Thanks, Wulfe!
Mercy is kidnapped by one sentence Wulfe tells Bonaranta. Had it not been for it, the whole story would not have happened. At least that’s what we are to think initially. This seemingly simple matter has a bottom line, and this is what is most interesting in the Time of Silence .
