Another volume has appeared in the Świat mythów series – The Iliad by Homer. The epic told in the pages of the comic book will surely appeal to everyone who was unable to get through the original work of the father of epic poetry. The volume, like all the others, was enriched with a scientific study by the philosopher Luc Ferry.
Under the fortified walls of Troy
Bearing in mind the screening of the epic by Homer, telling the story of the Greek struggle at the walls of Troy, it is worth recalling those events that fascinated us in the original and the adaptation. The beautiful Helena, the wife of Menelaus, was kidnapped by the Trojan prince, Paris, which for the brother of the king of Sparta became a perfect excuse to take over the splendid city and expand the borders of his own empire. The key to victory, however, is one man – Achilles, the bravest of all warriors, who can gain immortal fame in this war. Unfortunately, the heroes do not know that they are really only pawns in the hands of the gods playing mortals like pieces on a chessboard. And, importantly, only immortals can emerge victorious from this fight. In the Iliadso we have a fight not only with our own weaknesses, but also with gods who play an uneven game on an unstable field.
The world is hidden in myths
Luc Ferry is the originator and author of the Iliad , Clotilde Bruneau is responsible for the script, Pierre Taranzano for the drawings, and Stambecco for the colors. The volume is divided into three parts: Apple of Discord , War of the Gods , and The Fall of Troy . In each part, a different fragment of the Iliad is toldand together – coherently – they form a single whole. As I mentioned earlier, the edition was enriched with a study by Luc Ferry, which analyzed in detail the philosophical aspect of the presented myth and its importance for cultural heritage. Kreska deserves recognition – the authors remain consistent in portraying reality; The multitude of details will appeal to all fans of comic illustrations. The Iliad is undoubtedly a successful adaptation that allows you to introduce the myth not only to adults, but also to teenage audiences.
Plans for the future
So far, three volumes have been published in the World of Myths series: Antigone , Daedalus and Icarus , and the discussed Iliad . The Odyssey , Gilgamesh and Oedipus are in the pipeline . Egmont Publishing House does not keep us waiting long for new proposals! This is the reason why it is really worth stocking up on Egmont’s suggestions and refreshing the mythology. The reviewed Iliad confirms the legitimacy of publishing thematic volumes and is a small masterpiece for which it is really worth finding a place on the shelf.
