In the name of the pet! – review of the movie “DC Liga Super-Pets”

So far, many animations have told about the unusual relationships between humans and animals. Some of the films were aimed at the little ones, others for the big ones, and the rest suited universal tastes. The appearance of Jared Stern’s DC Super-Pets League on the film market fits in with the posthumanist concept of a community of people and animals. How is the latest Warner offer coming out?

Labrador Krypto – extremely fast and ultra-powerful – partners … guess who? Yes, you are right, of course Superman! This puzzle was extremely simple, because the animal with that name made its comic debut in 1955 ( Adventure Comics # 210 ). Pop-culture references make it impossible to wonder about other animals in Metropolis that also acquire superpowers. Will there be partners for them? Creators of the DC Super-Pets Leaguethey probably asked themselves similar questions during the initial talks about planned animations. The end result is that (great) people and (super) animals work together. In addition to Krypto, we meet in the film the boxer Ace, who will not fall asleep when the light is on, the exceedingly fast turtle (!) Merton, the squirrel Chip discovering the secrets of electrokinesis and the pendulous mump of PB. When well-known and liked superheroes succumb to the evil powers of antagonists and have to breathe for a while, furry friends go to the rescue. Defeating the victim of Lex Luthor’s experiments – a guinea pig, hopelessly in love with its “creator” – will not be so easy, however, especially since so far the animals have viewed the world almost exclusively from behind bars.

For young and old

Justice League on its knees… – the vision of such a reality chills a fan of the DC world . And how is it viewed by the youngest, who should have the most fun with the animation? Having seen the reactions in the cinema room, I can undoubtedly say that Warner took care of the visual and sound aspects of the production! DC Super-Pets Leagueis a high-budget film, enriched with many imaginative action scenes. The behavior of the protagonists and antagonists is conducive to megadolce, which makes you smile – after all, we know that everything has to be sorted out somehow! Viewers of all ages will find something for themselves in the animation – slapstick humor will prevent boredom, and the message remains in the minds of the youngest for a long time. Huge recognition is due to the creators who have not forgotten who the main audience of the film is. Out-of-the-box solutions are unnecessary, as the film still defends itself, but Stern and screenwriter John Whittington are not resting on their laurels. They present in a funny way the characteristics of iconic superheroes (including “dark” Batman, Flash and his inexhaustible energy in a hamster wheel, narcissistic Aquaman). The story of Ace deserves a special mention – it is moving and impossible to forget quickly. It confirms that the superhero is dormant in all of us (also when we are animals!), Only sometimes it is harder to see it.

The Polish version of the dub was prepared by SDI Media Polska, directed by Agnieszka Zwolińska, with dialogues refined by Jakub Kowalczyk. The Polish version was attended by Arkadiusz Jakubik (Krypto), Robert Więckiewicz (As), Lidia Sadowa (Lulu), Anna Smołowik (PB), Grzegorz Kwiecień (Superman), Katarzyna Skolimowska (Merton), Waldemar Barwiński (Chip), Michał Sitarski ( Lex Luthor) and others. Some jokes and “gibberish” curses may be gently offended, although their number is not overwhelming. If you’re impatiently waiting for the original version (voiced by Dwayne Johnson, Keanu Reeves, John Krasinski and Kevin Hart), it should be coming soon to HBO Max.

Summary

The latest story from Warner studio is not revealing, sometimes even a bit naive. The intrigue shown is no different from those we know from other superhero movies. The ending is predictable, and the solutions leading to it are a bit too hermetic. This makes the animation most appealing to children and slightly older die-hard fans of the DC universe. It should be emphasized, however, that the canine perspective of getting to know the emotions of urban outsiders remains extremely interesting. In addition, apart from an effective script and quite good music (enhancing the drama of key scenes!), The production has one more surprise for us. The animation captures the friendship between humans and animals in a modified way and shows that there is nothing more precious in life than unconditional feeling. I only regret that – despite the enormous possibilities – the Polish title has not been slightly modified. In my opinion, one word change –League to League is insufficient.

It is worth mentioning that DC Liga Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace was also released in July this year for fans of the latest production from Warner studio . This is an arcade game based on a peer-reviewed movie that aims to save the animals from being trapped in the LexCorp Zoo, defeat Lex and find a home for the pets at the Adoption Center.

PS. It is worth staying in the cinema a little longer. After the credits, two more short scenes from the lives of DC’s heroes are displayed.
