In the Dutch climate
The author – Thomas Olde Heuvelt – is a Dutch writer who made his debut when he was just 19 years old. In 2015, he was the first non-English-language author to receive the prestigious Hugo Award for one of his short stories, and a year later he became internationally successful with the novel HEX , which has been published in over 25 countries and is now being adapted for a series by Gary Dauberman, a working writer. with films such as Annabelle and To . Interestingly, it was this novel that Stephen King considered brilliant, and this is the best recommendation. The latest book proposition from the Albatros publishing house was the long-awaited one. Echoit has over 600 pages and its reading allows the reader to open up to slightly different aspects of horror – the story flows slowly, but the atmosphere is dark and dense from the very beginning. As we read on the cover, there are things worse than death .
A piece of the ridge as a souvenir
Mount Maudit was not mentioned in guidebooks and nobody wanted to talk about it. She tempted, however, with the promise of a great adventure, and that is why Nick Greves, unable to resist the attraction, decided to find her. The expedition, however, turned out to be more difficult than he had assumed, and he paid a high price for his curiosity before he returned to his relatives. From then on, monstrous facial mutilations reminded him of that mountain, and all those who renewed contact with him began to succumb to its destructive influence (also the protagonist’s boyfriend, Sam Avery). The hero was faced with a difficult decision: to return to the top, leaving his relatives behind, or remain in suspense, while risking the loss of what is most valuable. The introduction to the story reveals just how dark the reality in which Nick is imprisoned is. Exploring the mysteries of the hero’s psyche is the key task of the reader who follows his footsteps with bated breath and believes that this story can have a happy ending. This evil, which lurks in the recesses of reading, is somewhat hidden, and you should not expect it to overwhelm you with its enormity; the reader will discover it, and it will effectively keep him from falling asleep.Echo delights its plot and also for this reason the book is read very quickly. Additionally, solving the puzzle is not as easy as it seems at the beginning, so we stay in suspense practically all the time.
Can you fight the mountain?
Mount Maudit (Mont Maudit) is real. It is a peak lying on the border between France and Italy, in the Mont Blanc Massif. In translation – Cursed Mountain. In Heuvelt’s novel, the evil at the top never ceases to tempt. The author, a privately avid mountaineer, told the novel about his experiences, which only added to its authenticity. The non-uniform narrative also confirms the viewer’s belief that the hero’s memories are not only a figment of the hero’s imagination, but tell a non-obvious story. Dread and anxiety permeate every page of this novel as the reader succumbs to its charm. In addition, Heuvelt efficiently uses various genres to bring the reader closer to the fictional reality – guaranteed to shiver! Echois one of the most interesting items in 2022 and will find a special place in my bookcase.
