Story time
(If you haven’t read the first chapter of this series, I recommend skipping this paragraph!)
A year has passed since friends – Nate, Summer, Trevor and Gołąb – saved the town of Colson from Belinda White, owner of the Sweet Tooth candy store. As we remember, the evil sorceress eventually turned into a peer of the heroes, and then she lost her memory. Now Lindy, no longer Belinda, helps her friends fight the new threat. A dodgy arcade pops up in town where you can win amazing prizes. It is owned, to the reader’s surprise, Belinda’s brother Jonas White – no less ruthless than the wizard’s sister. The man will not rest until he has the most powerful talisman on Earth. Young friends must come together and gain White’s trust to thwart his plans. Hurry is advisable, because people are starting to die …
Subjectively
Wilga publishing house has released another excellent novel by Brandon Mull. Just like its predecessor, The Candy Shop War. Arcade Catastrophe in the arcade looks very aesthetically pleasing. Mull re-enriches the story with a pinch of didacticism, creating multi-colored characters that can be analyzed from many perspectives. Friends still stick together, which indicates the strength of the relationship; together they also try to save Mozag and John Dart, who have mysteriously gone missing. The enrichment of the presented world with new characters deserves special recognition, which proves the artist’s extraordinary creativity. The Candy ShopWar series prompts the audience to reflect – the characters have to find themselves in many situations and do not always remember what morality is.
Beauty is in idea
I recommended the previous volume of Candy Wars for Santa Claus, now – buy it for your own pleasure! Although the story is reminiscent of other literary propositions (including Harry Potter , The Series of Unfortunate Events ), Mull’s style remains original and who knows, maybe even more interesting. It is true that the author declared that perhaps the sequel would never be created, and here we are – we have a small, fascinating literary work – Arcade Catastrophe! Rafał Lisowski, who is responsible for the translation, still maintains a high level of aesthetics of the translation, and the illustrations are delightful! Both the title and the author’s name are displayed on the cover, which I really like. The kids known from the previous volume are “watching” the reader from the cover, but not only them… The premiere of Mull’s latest novel was recently, so do not hesitate and go to the bookstore.
