In search of truth? – review of the comic “Cyberpunk 2077. Finding Johnny”, vol. 3

Cyberpunk 2077. Where is Johny it’s now a third comicbook that takes place in CD Projekt Red universe. Is this chapter going to prove to be equally good?

Fight against corporations

The main character of the comicbook is the journalist Wallace. He tries to write shocking reports to open people eyes. He wants to show the other face of large corporations. This such lofty goals and ideals guide him, but on the other hand, the protagonist is only a human. And as you know, sometimes it doesn’t take much to change sides or betray a friend. Protagonist’s reports does not make any impression on people. Pub-goers prefer, for example, to watch matches. Nevertheless, someone noticed something special about the protagonist, because he was entrusted with an interesting task. Specifically, he must find the body of the famous Johnny Silverhand, who reportedly blew up the headquarters of a large company! Wallace wants to know the truth about these events, and as it usually happens, the truth has many faces!

Ugliness of Cyberpunk

Contrary to Your voice, this volume gripped me much more. The plot is extremely interesting because, surprisingly, there is not too much action. Wallace, as befits a reporter, is not fit for a fighter. He won’t be slapping others in the mouth! The only thing left for him to do is to look for informants, nobble and trust his own intuition. While I have no major reservations about the story and characters, the graphics disappointed me a lot. At least in Your voice, which I didn’t like it too, but the artist has his own unique style. Unfortunately, I am not able to defend the third volume in any way. In my opinion, the drawings are just ugly. There is a lack of attention to detail, some frames look more like concept sketches, the faces are drawn carelessly. Nevertheless, I am happy to immerse myself through this comic, but only because I was captured by the story in it.

Was it worth looking for Johnny?

Cyberpunk 2077. Where’s Johnny is, in my opinion, the ugliest of all three volumes. On the other hand, it also offers the best story (you can feel the dirt and muck that is in vibes of cyberpunk climate, it’s just much better here). In the earlier parts, at times I bombed along with the heroes, and I was able to enjoy the intriguing universe and ambiguous characters. In addition, there are some really wise statements here, for example about people’s TV tastes. Not only that, I was captivated by the new series presented by one of the producers for which the protagonist works! And the open ending reassured me that the author not only wanted to entertain the readers, but also to make them reflect.
