In a dog’s embrace – review of the comic book “The Tramp in Love”

A Tramp in Love in 1955 became the fifteenth film in the official animation canon of Walt Disney. The story of true love, devotion and not necessarily bad changes delighted audiences all over the world. Now Egmont has decided to release a comic book adaptation of a Walt Disney movie; is it equally beautiful?

New – old story

Christmas is characterized by a unique atmosphere. When Jim gives his wife a gift, the woman expects to find a hat in a small box that has recently caught her eye. The surprise, however, is more spectacular – a female cocker spaniel hides under her age. Lady, because that is the name that the lady chooses for her, quickly becomes the apple of her guardians, but the idyll does not last long – when a child appears in the life of a marriage, the spaniel feels rejected. He has to turn the house into a kennel, a muzzle lands on his face, and he has to constantly repel the attacks of two Siamese cats. On the day she meets Tramp’s cute buddy, she learns the secrets of a carefree life. Their joint adventure changes the lives of both dogs – a feeling is born between them.

But it was already?

Do you know that one of the most recognizable Disney scenes – the first kiss of Lady and Tramp during the joint consumption of pasta – was to be cut from the final part of the animation? Well, perhaps this fact influenced the creators of the comic as well. The characters do kiss during dinner, but it’s not as spectacular in the plot. The whole scene is limited to just a few small frames. I do not hide, however, that I really like the idea of transferring the film story to the comic, especially since the language and graphics remain at the same high level as in Disney prototypes. The notebook can be divided into three parts: the presentation of the main, or rather almost all characters (Lady, Tramp, Kilt, Wiarus, dogs from the shelter, Mr. and Mrs., Aunt Sarah, Si and Am, and Tony and Joe), the title storyA mongrel in love and a part of Memories (graphics showing the past of the heroes).

New collection – classic Disney fairy tales

The next book of the series has been prepared with the greatest care. The thin cover is still a microscopic drawback, which unfortunately will not protect the book from the creases formed while reading it. The comic was prepared, in cooperation, by, among others François Corteggiani (adaptation of the script of the first edition), Mario Cortés (draft), Angela Capolupo (colors), Mateusz Lis (translation), Artur Szrejter (volume editor) and others. If you do not have a Dog in Love in your bookcase, I recommend this proposition! I am convinced that you will be delighted with the way the story is presented, the graphically depicted reality, and the aforementioned additions. The comic can also be used as a gift for a child. The price for the notebook is not high, so it is easy to complete the whole series.
