InwestyGatory in action!
Mango and Brasz – the commissioners of the conspiratorial criminal unit pursuing troublesome criminals, agents of the TROP (Secret Police Department) in person! When they are assigned a job, they have a lot of work to do. In the first volume of InwestyGatorówThe case of the missing restaurateur Wąsior remains to be solved. Alligators have to face a masked opponent dressed in a yellow raincoat, but not only – they will also have to deal with the crisis in the World of Science and bake them – after all, they are amateurs! – a huge cake. The plot of the first volume allows you to get to know the style of John Patrick Green, who has incredible experience – for years he worked as a comic book consultant for Disney Adventures magazine, as well as illustrated and worked on volumes for Nickelodeon, Dreamworks, Scholastic, DC Comics and First Second Books. In addition, he is a writer and illustrator of graphic novels about animals performing human work: Hippopotamister , the Eisner Award-nominated series The Kitten Contruction Companyand, of course, the New York Times best-selling series InwestyGatory ( you can find its teaser here ). Green’s rich portfolio also includes cooperation with Dave Roman, and the result is Teen Boat! .
Full immersion
After reading the first volume of InwerstyGators , you probably won’t be able to wait for the second one! Mango and Bras will go to the sewers again, but this time they will do it to save the city. Crackerdyl, a former TROP agent, caused a flood, which has dramatic consequences (they break out, among others, toilets!). Unfortunately, InwestyGatory is blamed for the catastrophe. The chance to regain your good name is to find a cracker from the second baking – an antagonist who seeks revenge. Playing the plumbers seems like a simple task (thanks to the SZAT – Special Advanced Anti-Terrorist Technology), but will InwestyGatory prove to be better than Team B (orsuków)? One thing is for sure – if they fail to solve the puzzle, the whole city will disappear under water.
The second volume, like the first, has about 200 pages printed on gray paper. The charming, clear drawings have been aesthetically colored by Aaron Polek. Particular attention is drawn to the exclamation marks, which indicate the emotional state of the characters and easter eggs , mostly adjusted to the Polish audience. At this point, it is worth noting that Anna Lewicka is responsible for the translation of the reviewed series and she deserves applause! The comic is a lot of fun, thanks to the well-translated gags (maybe not all of them, but translating a comic book series for children can be a bit difficult)!
Humor above all
Publishers recommend the InwestyGatory seriesto everyone who is looking for a comic book filled with absurd gags, loo-like humor and twisted twists. And indeed, the adventures of this dynamic duo of reptiles drag you in for hours. The comic is dedicated to children aged 9-12 and I think it’s not a bad sign (although don’t be surprised if your pupils ask for some words to explain). Fortunately, the adventures of merry alligators were devoid of vulgarisms and examples of acts of aggression. The heroes are nice and the youngest recipients will probably like them immediately, although I regret that the creator did not attempt to add more details about their personal profiles (we don’t really know much about alligators). Both comics should also be appreciated for their message; in short – don’t be angry! On the downside – both volumes are characterized by a multidimensional plot, which can be a bit confusing. Even taking into account the level of absurdity announced by the publisher, sometimes we can observe some gaps or gaps in the plot. If this comes to an incomprehensible gag, the reader gets lost.
Accessories
How nice that Green has enriched comics with additions! The first volume features The Secret Agent’s Secret Word of the Day along with an encyclopaedic definition, as well as an announcement for the second volume. In the next, the creator shows how to draw his own InwerstyGators and the Eye – Orbiting Computer Caretaker (a simple line works wonders!), He attaches the secret files of TROP and announces the great return of Mango and Brash. Oh, and the Krakerdyl will also come back. However, we do not know when this return will take place.
