After meeting Roland, there were a few changes in Kate and Curran’s lives, but the biggest one was the compulsion to separate from the Pack. A life devoid of sparkling in the candlestick and constant responsibility for others definitely has its advantages, unfortunately it also has disadvantages, such as lack of support, when you are suddenly attacked by dozens of ghouls at once.
The dust had barely settled after Daniels’ first encounter with his father, and there were more problems in the life of the former mercenary. First, there are new obligations to designate Atlanta as its territory (which not everyone knows yet, and which is obviously something new to the signifier itself). Secondly, the unusual behavior of ghouls, which seem to never form larger groups, and yet this is exactly what decides to disturb the peace of the main heroine’s hometown. Add to this the fact that Eduardo the buffalo – a friend of Kate and Curran – has disappeared and everything seems to indicate that no one but his beloved is trying to look for him, and we will get a recipe for overloading the body, which could ultimately endanger Daniels’ life.
Life, life is a short story …
The truce concluded with Roland caused Kate and his beloved to leave the Stronghold and start living in their new home (along with Julie) and on their own. This new beginning requires them to be temporarily but completely separated from the Pack, so they learn how to function, be they neighbors with humans or with the Order and the Rod (and both institutions are not thrilled with Kate’s revealed ancestry). Curran’s character gains an additional dimension in terms of the lack of social skills in relation to people, while Kate slowly realizes that even she has limits of physical endurance. A deepening bond with Julie is delicately outlined, and even Roland gets his five minutes more of a father role than a dominant force that wants to annihilate everything. Unfortunately, this is another volume with little Derek’s involvement,
It’s elementary!
Magic Destroys was a book based on intense action. Magic connectsdiffers from it in the pace of events and focuses much more on the detective plot and the introduction of new characters (both good and bad). The main issue in the book is the mysterious disappearance of Eduardo and the request of George (Mahon’s daughter) to help find him. Of course, the main duo takes up the challenge, but along with the next pieces of the puzzle, it turns out that the matter is extremely confusing and nothing fits together. Although there are several battles in the story, its nature is different and you can see that it aims to introduce a specific solution that Kate will try to reach in the future in the fight against her father. Once again, the authors resorted to mythology to surprise us with new opponents, so although the plot development is similar to those in the previous parts, there are still interesting novelties in it.
Why do ghouls eat corpses?
If I had to stick to something about this book, it would only be one thing: the cover. Although this is a new version of the dust jacket of this series, I am not as convinced as the first one (I dream of making graphics by Magda Babińska). In addition, the reading, although less intense than the previous volumes, is still characterized by a very good plot, great characters and an extremely vividly devoted world of action.
