I hate hating things! – review of the comic book “Garfield. Fat cat’s three-pack ”vol. 3

The third volume of the fullest edition of Garfield’s stripes is the next stage of the reader’s adventure with the fat cat . The Fat Cat 3-Pack has been split into three parts: Garfield sits down , Garfield tilts the scales and Garfield loses his feet . Any fan of comic books about the American cat can infer from the titles alone that the main theme of picture stories will be the growing weight of the animal hero. But that doesn’t bother him at all!

Jim Davis announces that a lot will happen in the third volume of the adventures of Garfield. And it really is. The Fat Cat 3-Pack is a compilation of the various adventures of the American cat. Along with his friends (and “friends”), Garfield will have to face his greatest enemy – a weight that will relentlessly show one kilo more than before. The entire volume has been constructed in such a way that the titles of individual parts indicate the main idea. Garfield lays down , Garfield tilts the scales, and Garfield loses his feet, giving linguistic signals that the cat is growing stronger.

Garfield sits down . It’s time to eat, Your Majesty

The first part of the comic is full of funny situations. Garfield focuses his attention primarily on Odi – he fights with him for the rights to the food bowl, organizes newspaper battles, encourages him to climb trees and makes (his own) pranks. At the same time, the reader may notice that the cat’s attitude changes. He uses a few inconspicuous moments to show the dog tenderness, to pet him or to whisper something nice like, “I like you, Odie.” In previous volumes, such situations had happened, but only Jon was the recipient.

In Garfield, the cat sits down and meets the grandmother of its owner. The woman does not like dogs, which further increases the feeling of sympathy on the part of the cat. Another recipient of Garfield’s love is, of course, Pooky, who plays the role of a mascot, but also a costume that the title character can wear if necessary. These activities will, of course, be associated with an endless desire to consume goods. Garfield’s needs will also be manifested in relationships with kitties. Arlene, although eager for kisses, will require commitment and acceptance from her partner. It is worth noting that in this volume, the cat diastema is no longer a generator of sensitive comments. In addition to these characters, Jon’s parents also won the cat’s sympathy. Jon spends the weekends at their house.

Garfield tips the scales : If I couldn’t eat, I would just die

Garfield’s trips to the supermarkets – the United Nations of Food – always end the same. The most delicious dish is the frozen lasagne, for which the cat reaches into the depths of the freezers. Of course, Jon saves the Macaron Maniac from the oppression . A visit to the store, however, does not meet Garfield’s needs for long, and a few frames later, the cat owner must return to the United Nations Food to fill the refrigerator with treats for the next day. In the second part – Garfield’s tipping the scales – Odie again plays an important role. He protects Garfield from a huge dog (whom a fat catteases), at the same time he does not defend a representative of his species against another bloodthirsty attacker. The most serious threat, however, is not the bigger and stronger animal, but … little girls who throw themselves at the cat with bows with great pleasure. Nermal, the sweetest kitten in the world, also appears in this part. Garfield once again feels he can’t beat his rival’s personal charm. And unfortunately he is right. As part of his dissatisfaction, the fat cat takes the opportunity to throw Nermal into space.

Garfield is losing feet: I’m overqualified for this job

Garfield works by overeating at every turn, without interruptions or limits. As he says himself, it is not an easy life role. Despite the fact that Jon often tries to hide treats from the cat, strange coincidence the animal always manages to find them. Book Three – Garfield Loses His Feet– this is the last collection of comic strips in this volume. Garfield climbs the tree again and checks that the cats always fall on their feet. As it turns out – both yes and no. It is urgent to feel the pain when you fall. In addition to mundane activities, Jon and Garfield are going on vacation. The first flight by plane turns out to be a traumatic experience for the cat, who is convinced that he is a human child. A few days by the beautiful sea, however, brings relief to weary Jon and teaches Garfield to be patient. It bothers even the least strenuous. Arlene and Nermal also return in this part. Garfield is the first time in a series of righteous kitty compliments, though obviously lined with a dose of sarcasm.

No limits – we laugh!

And in this volume, Jim Davis does not disappoint. The reader gets good-quality comics in large numbers. Three collections of strips combined into one volume is a trifle! – three hours of reading. It is worth noting one of the changes proposed by the creator of the American cat. Garfield in the third volume is no longer solely focused on his own needs. He allows himself (and the readers) to have closer contact with other heroes of the story. Both Jon-feeder and Odie-ciamajda are important. Arlene also has a specific role throughout the story. In conclusion, I invite you to read a VERY good comic book.
