Arash Amel, Lee Krieger, and Joseph Oxford came up with the idea on the basis of which Clay Mcleod Chapman created the script, illustrated by Jakub Rebelka. This is how Genesis was born ! Will the post-apocalyptic vision of the world created by as many as five bring something new to the genre?
A new beginning
So far, many works have been created dealing with the struggle of mankind with artificial intelligence or alien civilization. Genesishe approaches the subject differently. The great global war ended a thousand years ago. In addition, a total failure of people. Moreover, failure in this case did not mean the loss of freedom, but the loss of life. Artificial intelligence has killed all fauna. Only the plants modified by the Net remained! Humanity has lost the war all the way. And now, after almost a thousand years, hope returns. An Android named Chloe brings its creator David Adams back to life. It is he who is to undertake the heroic task of recreating mankind. The only question is whether, in a world dominated by the Net, only three heroes will manage to accomplish the impossible? Troika? Who is the last of the heroes? It’s an android Clif that just is, and ultimately doesn’t even know where it came from.
An army of robots
The relationship between the two main characters is interesting. Chloe was created by David and then she paid him back. She recreated it and looked after him like a mother all the time until he became a mature man. On the other hand, the last man is on the one hand a completely new David, and on the other hand, after the transmission, he also has memories of his “previous life” – he had his share in the emergence of the Net and for this reason he carries a lot of weight on his shoulders. And then there is the unfortunate Clif – the android we know basically nothing about! In Genesisthere were tons of flashbacks and until the end I hoped there would be a scene showing how Clif joined the duo. I assumed Chloe had somehow brought him in so that David would have some sort of playmate. Unfortunately, there is no such thing. It cannot be denied that the first violin is played by the relationship between Adams and Chloe, which is probably why the authors decided to devote much less attention to the side characters.
A blurry world
I did not like the graphics. While the landscapes and frames depicting the world dominated by nature and the Web look great, the characters look unnatural and ugly. I have the impression that colors are often blurred, especially dynamic scenes lose their readability. For example, frames depicting creepers encircling David. After reading this passage, I still don’t know what happened. Did David free himself, did the vines release him and throw him into the water …? And there are more such moments. The fight scenes also leave a lot to be desired. However, it is impossible to fault the release. Probably only the cover price seems too high for the comic book content, although in the era of inflation, the ninety zlotys may not be so much.
Is it worth facing the almighty network?
In Genesis , I liked the idea above all. I love post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and here I got something original, fresh and interesting. Nevertheless, the heroes moved around this world a bit quickly! I regret that the authors did not try to get closer to the reality of the planet controlled by the Web. It was an interesting adventure, albeit a short one. The graphics are the worst here, although there were many well-drawn frames, there were also many illegible, blurry or simply ugly ones. If someone is intrigued by the description and likes post-apocalyptic atmosphere, he will probably not be disappointed in this position.
