Bożydar Antoni Jekiełłek has just graduated from the third grade and started what all children of his age like best (or at least in their TOP 10): holidays! The boy has many plans for the upcoming days off, but – as it turns out – not only he was thinking about what to do in the summer. Konrad, uncle Turu and mother decided to carry out a general renovation, and send Bożek and Likho himself to experience their adventures at Aunt Oda’s with the devotee Bazyl. The return to the old-new house turns out to be wonderful. They spend days frolicking and creating the first fantastic board game Bożek, and nights sleeping in a tent (because mom didn’t forbid it!). All that is good comes to an end, however, so the idyll of this trio does not last forever; it is finally interrupted by two events: a mysterious storm,a dangerous tree and a meeting of the school nemesis of Bożek – the smart Witek from strange facts about animals. You can read for yourself whether the half-boy who quotes the poetry has regained his dream vacation and whether he managed to “take away” Witek in September.
The power of poetry and sarcasm will overwhelm everything!
I love Marta Kisiel’s books. Regardless of whether I reach for the series about Konrad, short stories, or maybe the stories about the Stern family, I am always happy to read. The author each time presents not only an interesting story, but also fully consistent with my sense of humor, which causes me to laugh under my breath more than once or twice while reading. The third volume of the adventures of Bożek, a child of a paranormal relationship between a ghost and a woman, again holds the level of previous stories. On the one hand, it is light, pleasant and cheerful, on the other – adventurous and even thrilling. The uncomplicated plot not only has supernatural threads, but also refers to very typical situations typical of childhood. Is it the stress associated with learning to ride a bike or the buzzing emotions after a clash with a friend,
Wires, chorty and square piles of wombats
I also love the author’s language workshop. Also in this case, although the novel itself is aimed at younger audiences, it is not lexically infantile. Kisiel uses vocabulary such as eristics or inclination without hesitation .
In the case of this novel, it is also worth mentioning that not only do we immerse ourselves in Slavic mythology again, but also, thanks to the character of Witek, we receive many curiosities (of course mainly funny) from the world of animals. For me, an adult, it was interesting, so I suspect that children may like it even more.
There are pictures!
Briefly about the release: the book has a larger font than what I’m used to (maybe I’m wrong, but I suspect this is a nod to the target audience). The content is interspersed with illustrations by Paulina Wyrt, which perfectly harmonize with the character of this world. As I received the copy before the premiere, I do not know what type of cover is planned, but I bet on a hard one (looking at the previous volumes).
Please also take me on an adventure in summer
Summer with the devil by Marta Kisiel is a great adventure. You can eat, play, sleep in a tent and overcome evil forces. What more could you want from life? A great book for children, so it is a pity that the premiere is scheduled for September, because it is perfect for this time of the year and days off from school.
