The First Suicide Squad impressed neither cinema lovers nor comic fans of the DC universe. David Ayer’s film was not bad, but the age category imposed, the rigor of sticking to the consistency of the story told by DC Extended Universe and the too dark tone made the film a financial flop. This time it was decided to give the super criminals one more chance.
For the sake of peace, I will kill anything that moves!
The film is about the reunification of the group led by Waller. This time the group is really big at the beginning, to be quite slimmed down with the finale of the film. The film shows that the greatest enemy of the modern world is a country that promises to bring peace and justice.
Chaos is a key aesthetic choice here, but directing this kind of sensual attack and not getting lost in noise is much more difficult than it sounds, and is Gunn’s greatest achievement. He never loses character in action like many poor modern blockbusters do. While the movie itself seems to be a roller coaster without brakes, it is actually a very well-calibrated action comedy, alternating between humorous moments and outbursts of intense violence. In this context, this is the most insanely brutal superhero hit that makes Deadpool look a bit like we are comparing the first Harry Potter film.to the last. Not only does Gunn enter adult territory with his violence, but he accepts an R rating that Marvel would never have awarded him, allowing limbs to be torn from their bodies usually with a sticky sound. It’s a movie that is fun to act in a way that most modern blockbusters are forbidden. You could say Gunn and his team are having a great time, and that sort of thing can be contagious.
Additional aspects
The biggest advantage of the film is that it is not force-extended and lasts a little more than two clock hours. The extraordinary humor introduced by James Gunn fits perfectly with the strange group inhabiting Belle Reve. It’s good that this time the jokes were not censored, otherwise this film would not be amused at all, and so John Cena squeezes out of his character as much as possible to make the potential viewer laugh with cruelty. In addition, the soundtrack, as for the Guardians of the Galaxy(another James Gunn film), gives this comic book adaptation a unique atmosphere. Another thing that amazed me is the fact that the characters use their original languages. It is known that the good ones speak English (or almost all the good heroes of this movie), and the bad ones mainly speak Spanish. It may seem that the Spanish language accounts for almost 30% of the film, but in this way the director obtained a really interesting illusion of the US fight against an oppressive, small, Latin dictatorial state.
Fantastic release
This time I have to admit that we have a really interesting Blu-ray release. In addition to the standard unused scenes and gags, we have a fairly extensive documentary about the origins of the comic book character played by Sylvester Stallone – King Shark in the Suicide Squad. This character has been known in Poland for some time, but hardly anyone knows about his connections with the team of super villains. Another documentary about how James Gunn sees Starro – the great kaiju – is also interesting. The icing on the cake are three trailers in a retro style. In addition, I must admit that it was a good move to give up dubbing and introduce a voiceover in the Polish version. In addition, the film itself has a Spanish, English, Hungarian, Hindi and Czech version.
Please see the experiment
Version 2.0 of the Samobic Legion definitely emphasizes the weaknesses of the first film (which, incidentally, won an Oscar), and at the same time makes sense. Gunn’s version made me look back at the original and thought that was what they were trying to do but were interrupted by the label. This time, however, Warner Bros. he reached for his mind and used what DC has the best, and Marvel rose above the heights – he combined darkness with wit. Way to go! All the more, I encourage everyone to reach for the new Blu-ray title and supplement their library with this film gem.
