High time! Review of the newest blue version of “Time’s Up! Party”

Is there any party game that both kids and adults will quickly get into? A player who has already eaten his teeth on more than one card game, and one who is a total freshman? Look no further, reach for Time’s Up! , a mix of pun and pantomime, guaranteeing a lot of competition and fun.

Come on, team!

The goal of the game is to guess as many passwords as possible on the cards. Each team has 3 rounds and 30 seconds for this, which is too meticulous (and how annoying!) To measure the sand flowing in the miniature hourglass. After splitting into teams of two (there is also an odd gameplay option), all players must decide on one color of cards (yellow or blue), look at the passwords, discard two they definitely do not want to take, and then drop the remaining ones on a common pile . It circulates between the players throughout the game.

The first round is about describing what is on the card. You can say anything, even loose associations, as long as you guess as much as possible and score points for the team. In the second round, the situation becomes a bit more complicated and it only gets more interesting. The rule is: one word-one shot. The third round is a rolling ride – pantomime. You can’t say anything, just purr, hum the song and focus on showing.

Full-mouthed fun

Series  Time’s Up!  I met years ago. First, I played the yellow edition of  Time’s Up! Party , then I got a Celebrity version as a gift  . I LOVE these card games! They can integrate and convince even the biggest skeptics to party games, and there is always a lot going on during a gathering with friends (and maybe even twelve). Usually when I meet up with my bunch of regulars, the game starts off leisurely – and then we give the neighbors an excuse to call the police. In emotions, everyone stomps, jumps, screams, just to guess the password. In this respect, the blue version is as interesting as the “celebrity” version, but apart from the characters (fictional and real), the names of movies and series as well as famous places have also been added, which is definitely more fun.

Grandmother used to predict yellow and blue

Is it worth buying the new blue edition if you have the previous versions of  Time’s Up! ? Passwords become boring after some time, and old “taimsap” players can even play by heart. The Celebrity version has   also become slightly outdated. As the name suggests, the main motive was celebrities, and as with them … five minutes of fame quickly passes and after a few years you can completely forget who is who. So the blue version of  Time’s Up! The party  released in September this year is a great idea.

Going beyond the purely “human” categories diversifies the gameplay. When there were five musicians or six actresses in the game, the gameplay became problematic, because in a situation where you can only do general “dolls”, it is difficult to be particularly creative. In this case, the end of the game was usually tiring and repetitive. You waited for the slogans to go round and round, which was why points were scored most often by the person who remembered what they were trying to convey to their partner. When other slogans appear (eg Colors of Luck ), the machine needs more effort, especially in the second and third rounds – so it is more interesting.

Only minor things are on the downside. Sometimes it can be hard to get people who feel uncomfortable to play (well, you can’t skip that). The game, even aside from celebrities, requires knowledge of people, having a certain knowledge of the characters. When a team comes across someone who simply does not get it, unfortunately it has a slim chance of winning. Sometimes the third round has such a momentum that it can result in damage, e.g. breaking a glass with too aggressive pantomime (but it can also be an additional attraction of the card game: P).

On the technical side, thirty seconds to guess the password is a bit too little. The “celebrity” hourglass measured forty seconds (I counted with a stopwatch) and it made the game a bit more pleasant. The second disadvantage is the box – the hourglass-shaped hole is completely unnecessary, the packaging of the game quickly destroys, and the hole itself increases in size. But that’s just a minor complaint on my part. It is pure cosmetic.

Time for a recommendation!

Time’s Up! Party  is a great game. He can spark any company – friends, strangers, family. Ordinary puns or pantomime quickly become monotonous, but twisted “taimsap” puns and pantomime – that’s it! They won’t get bored for a long time, they evoke emotions and pure joy.
