Here comes Fimbulvinter! – review of the comic book “Justice League. Eternal Winter “

Justice League comic . Eternal Winter tells the story of the superheroes’ struggle with the Frost King. Can this story actually, as the announcement on the cover says, freeze the blood in the veins?

Winter, snow, frost and … ice monsters

The Justice League arrests minor villains on vacation in the Arabian Sea. The operation proceeds without major complications. Well, you can possibly mention that law enforcement officers are not very good at guarding supervillains, so ultimately the work of superheroes was wasted! Nevertheless, it is a completely insignificant episode, because a moment later the whole world is enveloped in winter. The worst thing, however, is that there are ice monsters in the midst of the blizzard. It seems that these dramatic events started drilling in Greenland. It was because of human interference that the Frost King awoke. In addition, it turns out that this individual first appeared in the 10th century!

Wonder Woman, Flash, Superman and … Black Adam

Justice League. Eternal winteris a very pleasant story, but at the same time it does not differ in anything special from other comic books about superheroes from the DC stable. The whole plot is interesting due to the two timelines. We not only observe the struggle of such famous characters as Superman or Wonder Woman with murderous weather and equally dangerous ice creatures, but also we watch the actions of heroes from the 10th century. This unusual team consists of the Hippolytus, the Viking Prince, the Swamp Monster and the Super Villain Black Adam! It is a pleasure to watch them struggle with the main antagonist. Unfortunately, the Frost King as a villain appears completely bland, although his genesis is quite interesting. On top of that, he has a more interesting motive than destroying the world, but that still doesn’t make him an intriguing opponent. Not to mention the fact that I didn’t feel any threat at all. The story is interesting, intriguing, but there are no surprising twists or chilling moments! Interestingly, there are a lot of interesting heroes here, although hardly any of them had the opportunity to prove themselves. I would also stick to a Manhattan resident; it would seem that its introduction was supposed to contribute something to the plot, while this thread was completely abandoned.

The beauty of blue locked in an ice crystal

Eternal Winter consists of several episodes drawn by various artists. While the overall performance is good, Phil Hester and Ande Parks did not really show off. Their drawings are angular and very simple, just ugly in my opinion. Fortunately, the other cartoonists created much more interesting graphics, especially Marco Santucci, responsible for flashbacks. I really liked the ubiquitous blue ice and snow, as well as the appearance of the Frost King. An amazing creation was also invented for Batman. His polar jumpsuit looks divine, it’s a shame Gacek plays such a marginal role here! I have nothing to complain about for the release.

Is it worth facing the Frost King?

Justice League. Eternal Winter is a perfect read for hot days. I enjoyed watching frames filled with snow and ice with great pleasure. Frankly speaking, I don’t really need to write more about this item. Oh, another interesting, engaging average eighty percent very nicely illustrated. The most interesting character is undoubtedly the Black Adam, who does not make life easier for anyone nowadays, and in addition he messed up quite a bit in the 10th century. I read this comic very quickly and I think that every fan of the DC universe will find something good for themselves here.
