Before Henry Cavill appeared in the series The Witcher, he was a fan of books from Andrzej Sapkowski. The passion for the universe helped him incarnate Geralt for Netflix and the hero’s more faithful devotion.
Marcin Zwierzchowski interviewed the actor in Polish, which was translated by Redanian Intelligence , and Cavill revealed that he had smuggled the dialogue out of the book until the last season. Apparently he did it without consulting the team, and the words fit together so well that they made it into the final draft:
There is a fragment at the beginning of Blood of the Elves where Geralt collapses on Sodden Hill. The hero has a vision that he is talking to Death. Beautiful words are spoken about walking through the meadow and the fog. There was no such scene in the series, and these words captivated me with their poetic sound. They conveyed Sapkowski phenomenally and I wanted my Geralt to pronounce them. However, I didn’t want to go over very long about where they should be, so I just did it, gave it to the camera, and was ready to face the consequences. Ultimately, they worked out perfectly in the second season.
The Redanian Intelligence found that the scene Cavill was referring to actually appeared in the story Something More from the Sword of Destiny collection . Despite this mistake, it’s nice to see that the actor is a fan of the books and has been able to bring an element of literature into the show. When adapting a beloved work, problems always arise, and there are many elements that do not end up in the final version for one reason or another. It is clear that Cavill used its position to make the final product as authentic as possible. Not every actor shows such dedication.
