Quietly, in the shadow of loud and widely advertised premieres, films are made for the home media market. These are usually titles that hardly anyone has heard about and basically no one (maybe except for audiovisual curiosity hunters and lovers of the darkest corners of housing estate rental shops). It is no different in the case of the third part of Hell's Depth .
Beyond the Seven Seas …
And the story goes like this: on the island of Little Happy off the coast of Mozambique, a team of scientists led by Dr. Emma Collins (Tania Raymonde) is studying the effects of climate change on the mating behavior of great white sharks. Then a research team (?) Led by Richard Lowell (Nathaniel Buzolic) – as it turns out, Dr. Collins’ former partner – arrives in the village looking for dangerous, genetically mutated predators. As the title suggests, hell will take place in the depths of the underwater …

The shark is not as scary as it is painted
And now a handful of facts: tens of millions of sharks are killed by humans every year. At the same time, the jaws (get it?) Of fish predators kill on average … 5 people. Among the things, beings and phenomena that haunt Homo Sapiens much more effectively are other members of the species (not only motorized and / or armed), but also: champagne corks, pieces of food, ladders, mowers, high and low temperatures, lightning and water. And yet, largely thanks to Spielberg’s Jaws , it is the triangular fin protruding above the waterline that evokes a paralyzing fear in the collective imagination.
However, our heroes, as befits specialists in their field, are aware of the harmful myths about the creatures she researches, so in the first minutes of the film Emma makes the viewers aware (both us, in front of the TV screen, and those living in the world presented – the oceanologist because he runs an internet blog) that these usually do not attack unprovoked. This is not the only educational value of the production. The script by Dirk Blackman also addresses the question of the consequences of advancing climate change. The few inhabitants of the island settlement (two of them) are discussing a potential move out – due to the rising water level, their home will soon cease to exist.

Business sharks
Apart from the pro-ecological theme, Hell’s Depth 3 also acquires an anti-capitalist and anti-corporate overtone. After all, the source of the problem is not unbridled nature, but the most anthropogenic product in the form of a large corporation and an invariably greedy big pharma . In direct reference to the original from 1999, animals that were the result of a project with initially noble assumptions (the researcher played by Saffron Burrows saw a cure for Alzheimer’s disease in highly developed brains of genetically modified sharks), which slips out of control due to the carelessness of profit-hungry suits “. I do not know how much this error paid off for the fictitious directors of this pharmaceutical company, but I do know that from the five-million budgetHell’s Depth 3 in the United States alone returned just over 360,000. Real business sharks.
Of course, this is not the worst movie ever made. Pretty nice underwater pictures are provided with a not bad soundtrack, hitting tropical climates. Neither the stage design nor the special effects knock you on your knees, but they don’t really hurt your eyes either. However, the whole thing fits in the ugly trend of reheating really old chops. The third installment of the broken series tries to imitate the charm of a not-so-serious action horror film from the turn of the century, but it lacks at least one cook and his parrot.
If for some reason you are interested in this title, I have phenomenal news – the DVD edition distributed by Galapagos Films, in addition to the film itself in several language versions, also contains additional materials revealing the secret of working on the set. I know that somewhere in Poland there are die-hard fans of the series who have been waiting impatiently for this release. Darku, it’s your lucky day!
