In an interview with Variety, HBO and HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys revealed that the project is, at least for now, in the drawer. The first mention of True Blood’s return appeared three years ago, but there have been no concrete plans since then. According to Bloys, several script proposals were made, but none of them lived up to the station’s expectations.
Although the project did not have the opportunity to get off the ground, HBO still had high hopes for it. Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and NOS4A2 series showrunner Jami O’Brien were involved . For now, it is not known what the plans are for their participation in the production.
True Blood debuted in September 2008 on HBO. The picture was based on books by Charlaine Harris. The story was set in modern-day Louisiana, where humans and vampires coexisted peacefully. This was made possible by synthetic blood, which had been invented a few years earlier. The main character is Sookie Stackhouse, a telepath who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton. The couple’s relationship is put through a tough test due to human criticism and suspicions about possible vampire connections to recent killings.
