It will soon be a full decade since Rockstar Games released a new Grand Theft Auto game , and fans are eagerly waiting to see what they have in store for the next installment. With all the money the developer has made, the technical advances Red Dead Redemption 2 has made , and the arrival of new hardware, fans have high hopes for the upcoming GTA VI .
Rockstar Games has confirmed that another Grand Theft Auto game is in the works. At the moment, we have no idea when it will actually be released. However, a new earnings report from Take-Two Interactive , the company that owns Rockstar Games , suggests that GTA 6 could be released as soon as next year. As noted by IGN, Take-Two told investors that its fiscal year 2025 (April 2024-March 2025) is a “highly anticipated year for the company” and has spent the last few years planning to take the company to the next level this year . Take-Two also noted that it expects this yearseveral groundbreaking titles that they believe will set new standards in our industry and allow us to reach over $8 billion in net bookings .
IGN noted that last fiscal year, Take-Two’s net bookings posted an annual record of $5.3 billion, driven largely by its acquisition of Zynga. In previous years, net bookings were closer to $3 billion. It would take a megaton hit to make such a dramatic jump to 8 – there’s really only one game that can do that. Grand Theft Auto V is to this day the second best-selling game of all time with 180 million copies sold. In 2013, it set records for earnings of $800 million in 24 hours and $1 billion in 3 days. Taking all this into account, it seems that the release of the next game in the series may be really close, and if we’re lucky, Rockstar Games may announce it later this year.
