“Good and Evil” – review of the book “Guardian of Treason”

The fight between good and evil has appeared in pop culture countless times. How did Maciej Ruszel approach him?

Demons are attacking

The human world is unexpectedly attacked by demons from another dimension. First, they conquer Atro, a city on the border of the kingdom. They are going to go to Xer soon. Shortly before Atro’s fall, Leif in charge of his defense sends his ward Veana to warn the next city against attack. Later, he is to travel to the capital. She has a long and exhausting journey ahead of her, and it gets more and more dangerous with each passing moment. The chances of winning over the demon horde are starting to shrink at an alarming rate. It soon becomes clear that the only hope for humanity’s survival is the Bane, who hasn’t used magic for several decades.

A very successful debut

The concept of the story presented in “The Guardian of Treason” – Good tries to defeat Evil at all costs – seems already very hackneyed. However, the author managed to avoid the usual patterns thanks to properly placed and interesting twists. The action of the novel takes place over several days, nothing is accidental. All events were well thought out and described in an interesting way. Maciej Ruszel skillfully adjusts his style to various heroes, descriptions of duels, and other, more down-to-earth events. We will also find here interesting thoughts on Good and Evil, allowing you to stop and reflect for a moment.

As for the characters, I wasn’t disappointed either. I liked Veana from the very beginning. Her character has been perfectly created, she is not a character with only merits. Thanks to this, you even wanted to read further. Undoubtedly, she is a brave and dedicated heroine, who, however, can often be lost by arrogance. Veana is not the only well-created character. The characters of Den and Leif deserve special attention, as their stories allow them to be known as full-blooded heroes.

Summary

It’s not so easy to find really successful fantasy today. I am all the more glad that such debuts as “The Guardian of Treason” are appearing on our market. I hope that Maciej Ruszel will soon publish another book that I will be able to immerse myself in. May there be as many such debuts as possible!
