A world where you have to be ready for anything is a recurring vision in the works of pop culture. This time I was able to check it in the gaming version from the independent Rejected Games studio.
Nuclear holocaust, wars, lack of resources or total submission to the system of power usually terrify, or at least arouse in us many violent and intense emotions. Since I am a huge fan of being prepared for anything, and the aforementioned visions move me a lot, I felt intrigued by the title in which I was supposed to play the role of the so-called preppers. The title of Mr. Prepper was created by the independent Rejected Games studio, and it could have come to our computers through the Polish publisher PlayWay.
Resistance is futile
The action of the game takes place in a fictional country with a totalitarian government. To survive in harsh conditions, residents must obey orders and bans from ruling entities. As if that were not enough, we receive information about the upcoming nuclear disaster. The main character – the aforementioned preppers – despite the threat from the government, decides to prepare for the worst on his own. So he collects resources, builds bunkers and tries to hide with all his actions, so as not to come under power – and this is what this game is about in a nutshell. As you can see, it is a very simple plot.
Diggy diggy hole
Controlling the character is simple, and the number of actions performed by the man is quite limited. At the beginning, we get a furnished house with a garden and the possibility of exchanging or selling / buying some basic materials. In order not to be too easy, we also get tasks to do, such as planting something in a bunker or fixing a specific thing. During the game, we interact lightly with the appearing inhabitants and the official supervising us (who appears on the days marked in our calendar). The main goal is to create a bunker system to survive, so if you enjoy the repetition of actions in the games, you’ve come to the right place.

Today I will go to the forest and read the letter
Although Mr. Preppermaybe like it, unfortunately I wouldn’t say that I’m one of his fans. Graphically, the world is quite unattractive and I associate it with something between the real appearance and the beginnings of 3D graphics. The colors did not move me in any way – I understand that the hero does not function in joyful conditions and spaces, but in terms of appearance, he is simply bland and bland. The idea was used well in the plot – fighting for survival, crafting and balancing on a thin line so as not to be arrested. However, I wonder why the pace of the game is so slow. Personally, I was terribly irritated by the hero’s movement and the lack of faster travel options (just walking in the woods, for example, was simply boring). It is also worth mentioning that the control in the case of the Nintendo Switch Lite was unintuitive at times – e.g.
But I will go buy the cans
As it has already sounded – I am not delighted and I have mixed feelings (looking at other opinions of the players, not only me). On the one hand, a timely idea, the use of well-known mechanics and some interesting crafting options. On the other hand, the game drags on and we feel weary of its pace and simplicity.
