Later
In the first volume of X-Men: Turning Points, Bishop began the hunt for Hope. Cable saved her from death and traveled with her in time. The pursuer, however, followed them. In order to support the defender of the last hope of homo superiors , Cyclops decides to send his son support in the form of the X-Force group led by Wolverin. However, they do not expect that they will also have to face Stryfe and one of the X-Men enemies. Deadpool’s help will also be a surprise for them. With such a balance of forces, who will win in the clash?
A world of secrets
The war for the messiah is a rather dark story, with a not very optimistic vision of the post-apocalyptic world. And even crazy Deadpool is a bit gloomy and depressing here. Interestingly, contrary to the title, this is not a story about the X-Men group! Cable, Hope, Bishop and Stryfe are at the center of the events, accompanied by the aforementioned X-Force group. The creators, who are Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost and Duane Swierczynski, bet on a large number of fights in which almost everyone is ready to throw themselves into everyone’s throat, and a lot of secrets. We do not fully know Wade’s story and motives, and more importantly, we do not find out what power the girl who is the mutant hope has and how she is supposed to save (or destroy, as Bishop claims) homo superiors. Interestingly, the heroes solve this puzzle and each time someone is about to reveal a secret, his words are interrupted for some reason. On the one hand, it builds up tension and increases curiosity, on the other – it irritates a bit. It is also worth adding that compared to the previous part, this time the authors do not jump over several threads, which makes it easier to focus and understand what is happening in the comic. The story, however, is also shorter, but more on that in a moment.
Two visions
The chief illustrators of The War for the Messiah are Clayton Crane and Ariel Olivetti. The artists had completely different ideas for presenting the plot of the comic. The first showed us the dark side of history. You can feel a gloomy atmosphere here, it gets bloodier, and the line itself is thick and clear. You can see every detail and grimace on the characters’ faces. The second gentleman gave a bit more colors, and his works are artistic, they look like posters. Pastel colors can certainly delight the recipient. Only that they fit a little less into the atmosphere of the entire notebook. Nevertheless, the frames of both cartoonists are memorable and make the reception of the already quite successful title more pleasant.
Let’s take a look at the briefcase
The second volume of X-Men: Turning Points is 248 pages long, but the story of Hope and the rest of the heroes is about 75% of the comic book. The rest are an addition in the form of Cable ‘s Files . I must admit that this is a very interesting supplement that will interest both X-Men fans and people less familiar with the adventures of these superheroes. Here we will find short, but at the same time the most important information about individual characters appearing in the War for the Messiahand throughout the Marvel universe. We will learn more about Cable’s past and his main enemies, lesser-known groups such as the Six Pack and the Askani Sect, we will set off into the past and future of Nathan Summers and learn about his full powers and weapons. There will also be a note on X-Force, and at the end we will have a comparison between Apocalypse and Styfe. Everything is provided with both newer and almost historical illustrations. If someone has not had the opportunity so far, they will see how comics were drawn in the 60s, 70s or 80s. At the end, we will also have an interview with one of the creators of the comic – Duane Swierczynski. As always, the publishersthey also included some alternative covers. A lot of reading and watching await us, and at the same time supplementing our knowledge about the story of Cyclops’ son and his closest friends and opponents.
Waiting for the Second Coming
There is no doubt that the War for the Messiah is a bit weaker than the Messiah Complex . Ed Brubaker is missing here, but he can add “something extra” to the plot. But at the same time, you can’t complain. A lot is happening, the atmosphere is amazing and the action is very suspenseful. The fight for Hope becomes more acute, and the secrets deepen even more. The graphics are pleasant and encourage reading. The fantastic addition in the form of information about the characters should also be appreciated, and the interview with the creator should be included among the advantages of the title. However, there are still many unknowns, so we will be impatiently waiting for the next comic book!
