Fans of the universe created by Blizzard certainly cannot complain about boredom. In addition to further additions to the game, they also receive a lot of books telling the story of the heroes of Azeroth. This time we get a closer look at the mage Rhonin in the novel World of Warcraft: Day of the Dragon .
Save the Dragon Queen
Day of the Dragon is set just after the Second War and the Invasion of Draenor. In other words, it takes place between the events of the Warcraft II and III games . It aims to explain to fans what was going on during this period on Azeroth. Its main character is the sorcerer Rhonin, who is sent by a certain Krasus on a mission to rescue the Dragon Queen Alexstrasza from captivity in the Dragonmaws. Its guide is the elf Vereesa. During the journey, the dwarf Felstad and the paladin Duncan also join the company. Meanwhile, quite unexpectedly, the dragon Deathwing, presumed dead, returns to the game and once again intends to sow death and destruction in the world. Only other dragons can stop him, but they don’t really want to help.
Classic fantasy?
Admittedly, ever since the World of Warcraft books began to be published , Blizzard has always made sure that they were interesting and polished. Therefore, people familiar with this world were employed as authors. The leader here is Christie Golden, highly valued by fans. However, Richard A. Knaak is responsible for the Day of the Dragon . It was he who gave us Malfurion and the Sunwell trilogy. Interestingly, this title was his debut in Azeroth. The novel was originally published in 2001, and now we have received its new version, which should please readers – the original has been practically unavailable on the Polish market for a long time. And since we’re talking about the writer, it’s worth adding that he also works in the Diablo or StarCraft universe . However, he started with things completely unrelated to Blizzard. Fans of fantasy know him perfectly from the series related to Dungeons & Dragons , i.e. Dragonlance . It was while working on this series that he earned his reputation and recognition.
The experience gained from creating earlier novels paid off in Day of the Dragon . We get a very good book in our hands, which is a pleasure to read. It’s hard not to get drawn into the adventure of Rhonin, Vereesa and the rest of the team. It has a few secrets and twists. Of course, Warcraft players won’t be surprised by the true identity of Krasus or Lord Prestor, but those less familiar with the series will get an interesting twist. In turn, enthusiasts of the product created by Blizzard will also not complain about boredom. They will discover Alexstrasza’s new story, and that will certainly come in handy now that the Dragon Queen is back in the game with the latest addition Dragonflight. Members of the Horde will be able to complain a bit, this time they do not have their positive hero in the novel. But what can you do, at that time orcs or trolls were not very noble, so the author did not intend to distort anything, but to present everything in accordance with the lore.
Adventure Time!
Unlike many other World of Warcraft novels, Day of the Dragon is not just for people associated with the universe. Of course, they will be pleased, because the author has perfectly described the story related to the release of Alexstrasza and the return of Deathwing. However, even without a closer knowledge of the world, you can read the book without major problems. Azeroth and its heroes are described in such an accessible way that we can easily get involved in the adventure. Especially since it is made in a classic style. A hero embarking on a dangerous mission, gathering a team along the way and fighting evil. An epic clash, intrigues, but also a pinch of humor – you will find here everything you need to not be able to tear yourself away from the book. I wholeheartedly recommend it, so go read it!
