For all fans of magic – a review of the board game “Chronicles of adventure. The Quest for the Moon Stones “

The reviewed board game by David Cicurel belongs to the cooperative genre. It combines the advantages of a board game and an application for mobile devices, which makes it an adept of magic and discovering the secrets of the two Kingdoms will be even more fun!

Long long time ago…

… there were two kingdoms: the Kingdom of Summer, known for its sunny weather and the fearful rule of a king with a great heart, and the Empire of Winter, shrouded in cold and snow, and ruled by a skillful empress living in an ice palace. For years, both lands were watched by only one wise wizard, but with time his strength began to diminish. Today you can become adepts of his school and gain magical powers! Help the wizard to unravel the mysteries of these kingdoms while going through extraordinary adventures. During your journey, you will probably find lunar stones that will allow you to become the most powerful wizards in the world!

Some practical tips

In a medium-sized box you will find a double-sided board showing the maps of the Summer Kingdom and the Winter Empire, 21 character cards, 40 item cards and instructions. An indispensable element of Chronicles of Adventure is a free application that can be downloaded from the Apple AppStore or Google Play (Android version 5 or newer or iOS version 11.0 or newer required). Before starting the game, it is recommended to install the application on your phone or tablet, because without it you will not be able to play the game. Importantly, you do not need to be connected to the Internet during the turn. The user interface language can be changed in the application settings.

ATTENTION! There may be occasions when the scanning feature will not work. Then check if the lighting in the room is adequate and if the QR code is inside the rectangle. You can also restart the camera’s focus settings.

During the game

Each story is an original adventure filled with unusual challenges. Adepts collect items and talk to the characters they meet, and at the end of the story they answer a few questions to see how the team went. The reward for completing each adventure is one of the magical moonstones. By winning all four, they achieve their goal – they become true wizards and are ready to face the final adventure.

The game board is double-sided (it shows both the Summer Kingdom map and the Winter Empire map); only from the application you will find out which side to use. During the first contact with the game, I recommend that you play a short tutorial that will allow you to get acquainted with the rules of the game. This short set of ideas will help you understand the tasks you have to face as a wizard’s apprentice; the most important characters you will meet on your way will also be presented. Importantly, at this stage you can finish reading the instructions, because the tutorial is enough for you!

Subjectively

The chronicles of the adventure have been prepared with the greatest care. Both the board, the elements of the box and even the application match the fairy-tale aesthetics. I can’t help but get the impression that the game under review is somewhat reminiscent of Chronicles of Crime (for adults), so everyone who had the pleasure of playing this Lucky Duck Games offer is already in the know! The proposed age of the player is 7+ and, interestingly, children can really play the board game on their own! As we do not need instructions, because we have everything in the application, we slowly learn the rules and just like that smoothly start the game.

However, there is one drawback to mention – the number of scenarios is small, and each game is one-off. Perhaps it is worth returning to the game in some time, but rather in a different group, unfamiliar with solutions. In conclusion, Chronicles of Adventure. The Quest for the Moon Stones is a successful combination of a board game with modern technology. I hope the publisher will decide to release other similar stories in the future.

PS Some time ago, another review of the game appeared on the portal, also published by Lucky Duck Games, which also combines the advantages of a board game and an application for mobile devices. Take a look : Hungry people .
