For a woman to fall in love with you, throw her off the roof – review of the book “Awakening of the Air”

The road from a poor schoolgirl to a sorceress, and the first in over a hundred years to rule the air, may be surprisingly short, as seventeen-year-old Vhalla Yarl found out for herself. In love with books, she was happy to study in the library at the imperial court until the day when, thanks to her knowledge and passion, she saved the life of the future ruler of the throne. The latter, in turn, thanked him that he would help awaken her magical powers and threw her off the roof.

A night on the back through the Solaris Empire

It has not happened for a long time to read the book, so when I closed Air Awakening at 5 amand I started looking on Amazon to find out how much the second volume costs – believe me – I was even more surprised than tired. Although Elisa Kova’s book is not an outstanding work and has its weaknesses, it certainly cannot be accused of a boring plot. The story is based primarily on the development of Vhalla’s power. The girl initially displaces everything related to her newfound abilities, but as she learns and learns from the handsome prince (Duke), her interest in magic slowly grows. In the background there are small political games important for the world presented in the next volumes, but there are not many of them and it cannot be said that they attract our attention while reading. There are many duplicated patterns known to us from other, similar books, sometimes it is also predictable, however, the author’s workshop compensates for it all. Reading is simply very enjoyable and interesting. There is someone to cheer on, whom to like, and the presented world has its depth, which makes it easy to imagine.

Hocus-pocus, spells Mary

As for magic, it’s not hereditary here. It can happen to anyone that he will suddenly wake up and discover overnight that he, for example, wields fire. Wizards base their skills on the elements of water, fire, earth and, of course, air. Due to historical events, however, magic is not welcomed in certain circles, much less those who wield it.

Asshole to love

In this novel – we are dealing with an unbearable type and a naive girl staring at him. Of course, the relationship between Vhalla and Prince Aldrik Solaris isn’t sweet from the start, but it doesn’t take a long time to develop. Despite the fact that this volume does not contain bed scenes (but in the whole series, as I read in the author’s statements), the chemistry between these two is noticeable. As it happens in the beginning of romances, there are many rash behaviors and moments of doubt, fortunately they are not very irritating. I will also not hide that in the case of the prince, there were scenes when I raised my eyes to heaven, sighing heavily over the inconsistency of his actions and the thickness of the threads with which his character was sewn. Later, however, I had a reflection, that I was still having a good time reading and forgiving the young prince for everything. In Vhalla, the ability to make decisions was constantly on the level of zero, so if it were not for fate, throwing more obstacles at her feet, I do not know if anything in her life would have changed on her initiative (at least in this volume).

I didn’t do anything about such a book

Currently, I am already reading the fourth volume of Vhalla’s adventures and I tread my feet when their translations come out in Poland, because the whole thing is developing terribly well. Although the first part has its better and worse moments, I can already tell you that an interesting youth series has appeared on our market, in the genre of the better ones and aimed not only at romance fans. In my opinion, the perfect reader that does not require too much thinking and allows you to get away from everyday problems.
