Life is different and some dogs don't realize it until something unexpected happens. This was the situation for Rascal, the title doggie, whose luxurious life turned into a fight for survival - almost in an instant.
Everything turned upside down
Watching Rascal , we will certainly notice similarities to such productions as Piorun , Corgi, Queen’s doggy , Garfield 2 , Aristocrats , The Secret Life of Pets , The Squirrel Gang or Ace Ventura: Dog Detective. This is mainly due to the dog’s protagonist, who … does not bring anything new to the world of animal animations. However, it’s not as bad as it might seem! Director Kevin Johnson decided that Rascal’s story will be generic (!). Already at the very beginning of the film, we can see that the title animal is used to luxuries. His wealthy owner treats him like a little prince in her large castle, calling him Panicz Rascal. The dog has neat claws, well-groomed hair, a sufficient number of hugs, a massaged body and a perfumed backside. However, fate is unpredictable and when the rich lady dies, the pet is left alone and has to fight for its fate. There are no cashmere blankets in this world
The adventures of Rascal will certainly amuse many viewers. The dog has to do without the comfort it was used to. In the meantime, he meets other representatives of his species and has the opportunity to observe their unusual behavior: riding their backs on the ground, sniffing, tracking or prone to mischief. The whole story is watched by the squirrels-thieves, who closely follow Rascal, having a dog’s collar hostage. The funniest part, however, is related to the adventures of dog detective Ace Ventura (sounds familiar?), Who is supposed to help the alleged new dog owners win the fight for the inheritance. The animation is filled with funny gags and simple jokes (eg “the best way to scout, smack your rump”, “hey, dog, you step on my peanuts”), which will surely amuse both the youngest and the little older ones. However, it would not be so much fun if it were not for the great cast of Polish dubbing. Mateusz Banasiuk deserves a special mention as the title character. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the music in the animation. The potential of the original language version was not used. In the English version we could hear Big Sean and Snoop Dogg, in the Polish version – only at the end of the animation we can hear the recording of Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.

A five-meal great sandwich dog
In the animation, Rascal Johnson showed us how great his love for four-legged heroes is. The way the world of dogs is shown will appeal to viewers of all ages. Despite the fact that the story is predictable, and even reproductive, and nobody in the cinema will feel surprised, Rascal is not one of those fairy tales that we will quickly forget. But we will remember not only about the main character. Raping Snoop, dancing squirrels à la Michael Jackson, Klara, Rózia, Brys and others will make us look at the animal world from a different perspective.
