AMC has announced that the six-episode series will reunite Rick Grimes (Lincoln) and Michonne (Guriry)! It will be one of three sequels set after the series finale of The Walking Dead . Filming began in February under the working title Summit, with Universe content director Scott M. Gimple serving as showrunner, who has just announced the end of principal photography:
Thank you for creating another world of The Walking Dead with us . It was your talent, energy and enthusiasm that got us through it all, bringing home a story told over a decade! This story will live on and our work on it; we are the ones who live!
– we read in the statement
This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Separated by distance. By unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war with the dead… and ultimately a war with the living. Can they find themselves, and who they were in a place and situation they had not known before? Are they enemies? lovers? Victims? winners? Without each other, are they alive at all – or will they discover that they too are the Living Dead?
– we read in the description of Rick and Michonne
The show’s directors are duo Bert & Bertie ( Troop Zero, Marvel’s Hawkeye ), Michael Slovis ( he Walking Dead, Breaking Bad ) and Michael E. Satrazemis ( Fear the Walking Dead, Tales of the Walking Dead ). Pollyanna McIntosh ( The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: New World) reprises her role as Jadis/Anne in a cast that includes newcomer Lesley-Ann Brandt ( Lucifer, Spartacus ).
It’s an epic and crazy love story. These are two people who have been separated for a very long time. They have lived completely different lives and need to find themselves again, let alone each other. We see this amazing power couple, but we also see Rick with a red machete. We see Michonne teaching the governor a few things. It’s kind of like running from coast to coast like this between intimate, epic and crazy experiences.
Gimple teased
The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne is set to premiere in 2024 on AMC and AMC+.
