Fast! Merrily! Creatively! – review of the game “Ubongo Junior 3D”

Ubongo in Swahili means brain and intelligence. No wonder that Grzegorz Rejchtman chose this name for his game – his board game forces you to think. Egmont has already released six other versions of Ubongo – is the latest version, Ubongo Junior 3D , equally interesting?

The giraffe will tell you the truth!

The game is not difficult, but you need to be observant and have a certain amount of manual skills. Each player receives a board with tasks and eight colored blocks. There are empty spaces of various shapes on the boards. After shouting “ubongo” and turning the hourglass, each player must fill the white fields as soon as possible. If it succeeds, use the remaining bricks to build the highest tower possible. The higher the construction, the more points scored in gems. And the giraffe-shaped measuring cup decides how much you get.

For young and old

Planszówka tries to combine entertainment for adults and children. Does she succeed? In my opinion – absolutely! Playing it for the first time, my opponent and two adults was a six-year-old. Thanks to the different levels of cards, the old players did not get bored, and the gameplay was not too trivial. We chose the most difficult cards, and a few-year-old could use slightly simpler cards, which she enjoyed anyway. So the levels were balanced and the fun was great.

What if adults would prefer more challenging puzzles or play without kids, despite the suggested name “junior”? Nothing simpler, you can combine this version of the game with the earlier version, Ubongo 3D , where the boards are more complicated. However, if we do not have it in our collection, you can only play level hard boards, and it will be interesting anyway. You should be prepared for the fact that this is not a long game – 30 minutes of gameplay is enough.

The game is solidly made. The boards are nice, adequately stiff and durable. Children will surely like the colors of the cards, shiny jewels and the nice giraffe measuring tape. It’s a pity that the blocks are plastic, but I can turn a blind eye to it – after all, it should be consistent with the previous 3D version, and the wooden blocks are still heavier.

Pleasant and useful

The entire Ubongo series supports logical thinking and creativity. In the Ubongo Junior 3D version, additional emphasis was placed on the development of spatial imagination and manual skills. If we are looking for a game that combines all these features and is fun for both children and adults, then this board game is perfect. The gameplay is fast, no one has time to get bored, and the additional advantage is that it develops various skills of the youngest game fans.

Worth recommending

Thanks to the fact that the gameplay is fast and the levels of the boards are varied, neither adults nor children will feel bored, and at the same time they will benefit from the game – you have to strain your gray cells and figure it out.
