On the occasion of the second round of presidential elections in our country, we have prepared a list of fantastic candidates! Especially for you, we present their attitudes, postulates and achievements. Remember, however, that the main goal of the candidates is to gain full power, often at any cost Make the right decision and elect your president!
Richard Nixon – Watchmen, Futurama
Richard Nixon is probably familiar to everyone, not only US citizens. His name will forever be associated with the infamous Watergate scandal. So why do we have this controversial American politician in the list of fantastic presidents? Well, Nixon appears in several fictional science fiction stories . Here we will focus specifically on two of its versions – from the comics and Watchmen movie and the animated series Futurama .
Let’s start with President Nixon, who came from the legendary Alan Moore. As a reminder, the action of the Watchmen movietakes place in 1985. Superheroes have been banned from continuing their activities as crime killers (with a few exceptions). The world is on the brink of a nuclear holocaust, and the only force holding humanity in check is the all-powerful Dr. Manhattan. The Watergate scandal was never revealed in this universe, and Richard Nixon won the war in Vietnam with the help of the aforementioned hero. Thanks to this success and a resolute approach to the enemies of the US, the politician secured several re-elections. When in November 1985 New York is destroyed by a monster from another dimension – which is in fact the creation of Ozymandias (in the film adaptation Dr. Manhattan is framed for causing this catastrophe) – Nixon and USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev agree to bury the war ax to to unite the world in defense against the new threat. Ultimately, the American leader remains in office until his death in 1989. For his achievements, he is added to the other distinguished US leaders on Mount Rushmore.
The second well-known, fantastic version of Richard Nixon is the one from the series Futurama . Here, however, we are not dealing with an alternative version of the world, but with a distant future. Although the series focuses on the adventures of Philip J. Fry, a 20th-century courier who accidentally hibernated and woke up a thousand years later, we can also see many interesting supporting characters. Among them are, among others well-known actors, politicians and celebrities of our times, preserved for posterity as … severed heads in jars. One of these heads is Nixon. Because the show is a science fiction comedy, and the former president was mockingly presented in it. Despite the passage of time, the politician is still power-hungry. He even manages to win the election for president of the Earth. After his election, Nixon is a despotic tyrant, operating from the body of a powerful combat robot. – Krzysztof Płociński
Michael Wilson – Metal Wolf Chaos
Sometimes it is the case that you have to save democracies yourself. Especially if the coup d’état is being prepared by the vice president himself. Such was the fate of Michael Wilson, the forty-seventh president of the United States, who undertook to restore democracy… with a giant mech. Pop culture also knows other examples of heroes straight from the White House (films by Air Force One or Olympus on fire ), but none of them had miniguns several meters long in their arsenal .
An absurd idea, but how unique. And this from the FromSoftware studio, which later delighted the world with the Souls and Bloodborne series . Not so long ago, the game was reissued with a captivating title: Metal Wolf Chaos XD . – Jacek Murawski
Coriolanus Snow / Almie Coin – The Hunger Games
In The Hunger Games, a lot of attention was paid to President Coriolanus Snow, but I would like to focus on the second president of the series – Alma Coin. From the beginning, Snow is presented as the main antagonist and it would seem that the characters will be idealized. What makes me very happy, Coin is an interesting, non-one-dimensional persona. She is as cunning as Snow. He knows the power of propaganda and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. Sounds familiar?
Well, Coin appears to be almost a mirror image of the president from Capitol, with the difference that he can mask himself much better. – Natalia Murawska
Lex Luthor – Superman: The Red Son
Who can be the president? Almost everyone. In the US, these are often entrepreneurs. Speaking of businessmen, it’s about Trump. Oh sorry about Lex Luthor (aren’t they similar?).
He has served as president several times in the DC universe. But what I remember most is the story in which the President of the United States, Lex Luthor, was the only man opposing communist Superman.
Mark Millar’s Red Son is a fascinating look at the Cold War, combining Superman’s goodwill with Stalin’s totalitarianism. Once again, Luthor has proved to be the polar opposite, taking capitalism into account while embodying what Donald Trump is presenting today. It is not for me to judge the policy of the American leader, but his actions are similar to those presented by Luthor on the pages of the comic.
The increasing rivalry between Lex and Superman leads to a global war, but they still respect each other. They both pursue a policy that, from their perspective, is necessary and right, but excludes what the opponent is presenting. Luthor is not strong enough to fight Superman and Superman is not smart enough to argue with Luthor.
Warto zgłębić też inne historie ze stron komiksów DC oraz filmów i seriali animowanych, w których widzimy wpływ Luthora na politykę Białego Domu. – Bartosz Stuła
President of Biznes – LEGO Adventure
The leader adored by the inhabitants of Klocburg is the final stage of the growing influence of large corporations on democracy and liberal capitalism. It is difficult to say how exactly he came to power over the world, but he successfully combines it with the function of the head of the Octan concern, which dominated the market in the block metropolis (produces, among others, voting devices).
Prezes Biznes dba o pozytywny medialny wizerunek. Dostarcza obywatelom prostą rozrywkę oraz ujednolicone produkty i usługi, promuje podążanie za instrukcjami. Zapewnia mieszkańcom poczucie spokoju, bezpieczeństwa i szczęścia. – Damian Lesicki
Warchief – World of Warcraft
As you know, there are two opposing factions in Azeroth – the Alliance and the Horde. The latter is headed by the War Commander. The faction was formed in Dreanor, during the times of the Old Horde. Then at its head stood one of the orcs, who commanded his people from his tent. The first title went to Blackhand, though in reality it was Gul’dan who exercised power from hiding. After the Second War, Thrall reformed the Horde. Tauren, Trolls, and Forsaken joined her, and Warchief took the lead of all allied races, ruling directly from the capital, Orgrimmar. The title was awarded by the outgoing Commander in the following years, although it is more often chosen by a special assembly. Apart from the aforementioned Thrall, the faction was headed by the orc Garosh, who was overthrown for his actions and was to be tried for the crimes committed, Vol’jin troll (fatally wounded by demons in the Battle of Broken Shores) and the first woman in history, Lady Sylvanas Windrunner. After the events ofWorld of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth banshee, however, escaped, abandoning the throne. At the moment, the position of War Commander remains vacant. – Piotr Markiewicz
President Gallifrey Lord Rassilon – Doctor Who
Rassilon is definitely an example of a leader I would not like to vote for. This is best illustrated by his attempt to destroy Earth in the two-episode story, The end of time . The president did nothing to save Gallifrey from the Great Time War. Rassilon drives the Master mad (via the Time Whirlwind) to fulfill the prophecy of the destruction of the universe so that the Time Lords can return from a time block (imposed by the Doctor).
It is also worth mentioning that the Doctor was elected president of the Time Lords several times, but he could not find himself in this role. He takes up this honorable office for the last time in Season 12 to get rid of the High Council and save Clara. – Mateusz Michałek
