Fake monsters and lots of candy – DVD movie review “Scooby-Doo: Happy Halloween!”

Everyone knows Scooby and his crew, right? If you are curious how he dealt with “Halloween ghosts”, don’t hesitate and buy a CD with the latest adventures of the brave dog and his friends. The screenwriter, director and executive producer of the animations is Maxwell Atoms, while Steve Rucker is responsible for the music.

Halloween night

Full-length films are highly appreciated by the fans of the series. Latest DVD Release – Scooby Doo: Happy Halloween!– it’s a real treat for fans of the series! On this Halloween’s Halloween, informal adventurers are drawn to the toxic sludge in the surrounding pumpkin patch. Slowly but surely, it affects the pumpkin lanterns – they begin to fly over the city and scare its inhabitants. Scooby Doo and his friends must join forces with other standout heroes, scientist Bill Nye and Elwira, the Lady of Darkness (Darkness) to unravel the mystery that can save the mystical Crystal Spa. The antagonist in the film is Dr. Crane aka Wróblostrach, known, among others, from the Batman series. Maxwell Atoms’ proposal also includes nameless heroes who have a greater or lesser influence on the plot.

The spooky pumpkins are coming!

The story told in the film may be of interest to young fans of the series about Scooby’s Crew. Older viewers, however, may feel a bit worried (and unfortunately not in the positive sense of the phrase). At first glance, it would seem that nothing will surprise us – we have a secret, a lot of Halloween delicacies for Scooby and Shaggy, a fantastically spooky atmosphere and (the director’s assumption) surprising twists. What’s more, the animation was filled with a lot of modern innovations: the Scooby’s team car has been enriched with new amenities, and the heroes use the latest technologies to solve puzzles (e.g. the future investigative vehicle Mystery Machine X, an application that allows you to be in touch all the time). The viewer’s attention is primarily drawn to the changed appearance of the characters (they resemble their originals, although changes in appearance may offend older audiences), the characters have acquired new (characteristic?) Character traits, and the plot elements seem more irrational than we might expect. Not everyone will like flying pumpkins, inept attempts to mislead the viewer (unfortunately the animation is very predictable) or the accumulation of new technologies. Fragments of dialogues, for example, “Do you have a burner?”, “Don’t rock that you want to help me, because I am having fun with you right now”, “I’m not afraid of you anymore, big pumpkin!”, “Soreczki” do not encourage to continue the screening, and the ending is disappointing, even though Velma very carefully summarizes the details of the investigation in it.

Additives

Apart from the full-length film, the album also includes three bonus (and age-old) cartoons ( Ghost That Pops In For Dinner , Halloween At Scooby’s , Chill Out, Scooby-Doo! ). Their quality will not satisfy the most demanding viewers, but it is worth giving them a chance. These are really interesting micro-productions! Important information for potential viewers is that each owner of the album can choose the language – English, French, Polish or Swedish. When choosing subtitles, we have more options available. However, we will not get such alternatives by watching the add-ons – only subtitles are available. Younger children, unfortunately, will not be able to read proportionally quickly to the dialogues appearing on the screen.
