Ewan McGregor officially admitted in an interview with ACE Universe that he will play Jiminy the cricket in Guillermo del Toro’s new stop-motion animation “Pinocchio” . Moreover, he said his main dialogue had already been recorded and that a song with his participation is now being considered.

Guillermo del Toro has been announcing his dark fantasy adaptation of Pinocchio for several years . His stop-motion animation will be based on Gris Grimly ‘s illustrations from a book published in 2002. The puppet boy created by Carlo Collodi will this time face the dark reality of Italy in the 1930s, during the rise of fascism and the dictatorial rule of Mussolini. In addition to Ewan McGregor, the voice actors already announced include David Bradley as Geppetto , Ron Perlman as Mangiafuoco , and Christoph Waltz as the Fox and Cat and Tilda Swinton as the Blue Fairy .
