Elizabeth Hand was born on March 29, 1957 in San Diego, California. She writes fantasy, horror and science fiction stories that have earned her critical acclaim and a dedicated readership. For twenty years he has been running the book reviews column in Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction . In addition to excellent novels (The Awakening of the Moon, Generation Loss, Wylding Hall ), dozens of short stories ( The Saffron Gatherers, Echo ) and reviews of other authors’ works, Hand can add adaptations of Hollywood films such as Star Wars, The 12 Monkeys or The Millennium to his possessions .
Elizabeth’s first article to appear in print was Prince of Flowers and was accepted for publication in 1988 in The Twilight Zone Magazine , a much-admired horror and fantasy journal, often written by already established genre writers. A story about a young woman who works at a Washington museum helped Hand sell her first full-length manuscript to Bantam. However, this is the debut novel, Long Winter Night(1990) turned out to be a success and started her career in earnest. The action is set in the distant future and introduces readers to an Earth ravaged by a series of wars and disasters. It tells about Wendy Wanders, a girl who can use the dreams and emotions of the people around her, and her long-lost twin brother, Raphael, whom she tries to find.
Elizabeth Hand’s work has been awarded many times, including the James Tiptree Jr. and the Mythopoeic Award for The Awakening of the Moon , twice the Shirley Jackson Award for the novels Generation Loss and Wylding Hall , four times the World Fantasy award (for the collection of Bibliomancy stories , the novel Illyria and the novels The Maiden of McCauley’s Flight of Bellerophon and The Last Summer on Mars Hill ).
