Cult comic in a modern version

After producing the animated adaptation of the Kajko i Kokosz comic series , the EGoFILM animation studio is not slowing down. The studio, which focuses on film productions for children, this time acquired the rights to screen the popular comic book by Henryk Jerzy Chmielewski – Tytus, Romek and A’Tomek – from the Prószyński i S-ka Publishing House. A full-length film will be made first, followed by an animated series. The planned start of work on the film is the beginning of 2023. The plot of the film will be a combination of selected books about the adventures of three friends, thanks to which each hero will have the opportunity to show himself both as an individual, as well as part of an exceptional trio.

Maciej Kur and Rafał Skarżycki will be responsible for the script, Tomasz Leśniak will be the director, Ewelina Gordziejuk will be the producer, and Michał Śledziński will be the art director – well-known from other children’s productions. The authors of future scripts are active comic book writers for whom Tytus, Romek and A’Tomek was the first comic book ever read.

Papcio Chmiel as an inspiration

The extraordinary personality of Papcio Chmiel became an inspiration for EGoFILM to create a new adaptation of Tytus, Romek and A’Tomek . However, his earlier work was of key importance – from the 1960s, that is, from the beginning in Świat Młodychto the first, independent comic book books. The author’s style was simpler, more geometric then. Nowadays, this simplicity is a timeless classic that is readable to all recipients, and yet remains something fresh and new to the eye. The EGoFILM studio aims to make this popular title an extraordinary show for our times. One that will delight the modern viewer aged 9-12, who does not know comics, as well as older audiences for whom the film can be a unique journey into the times of childhood. Although this title is iconic, the Creators want to give it a bit of a modern twist – there will be no shortage of jokes and fun, while maintaining the spirit and character of the comic book series, so as to pay tribute to the work of Papcio Chmiel.

The cradle of comic book creativity

Tytus, Romek and A’Tomek saw the light of day for the first time in 1957 in the pages of the youth newspaper, Świat Młodych . This well-known comic by Henryk Jerzy Chmielewski, also known as Papcio Chmiel, tells the story of two friends – Romek and A’Tomek, who are trying to humanize the chimpanzee – Tytus. Subsequent volumes allow you to discover interesting facts from various fields of knowledge. The world in this comic book is absurd and humorous, but at the same time it is distinguished by numerous educational messages, which mainly concern geography, nature protection and history. Papcio Chmiel’s extraordinary sense of humor, his imagination and the ability to subtly emphasize the absurdities of everyday life made him elevate his comic book creativity to an extremely high level. SeriesTytus, Romek and A’Tomek is a classic that in 1979 was recognized as the most outstanding achievement of Polish comic books, and in 2006 as the longest-published Polish comic book series, which still enjoys unflagging popularity among readers.
