In a new interview with PlayStation Blog , Boon touched on the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat , which is scheduled for later this month. Most of the conversation was about the history of the franchise, however Boon confirmed that NetherRealm did not freeze the series on a peg. And although the name Mortal Kombat 12 was not mentioned then, this is probably what this title is about.
Of course… we didn’t make the last game. I can only say so far, so as not to reveal too much.

Speaking more directly of Mortal’s new title , Boon assured NetherRealm Studios, “there is no end to new ideas.” Consequently, Mortal Kombat 12 , released sooner or later, will offer new elements and mechanics that we have not seen in the series so far.
That’s one thing I can say without hesitation. Mortal Kombat will continue to bring something fresh, new and will push the boundaries even further with regard to individual aspects of the game design.
At this point, the most common question about the 12th Mortal is about the release date. In the past, NetherRealm did not seem to keep fans in the dark for long, which might suggest that we can expect new information soon in this case as well. Although we do not have a guarantee that the new edition is next in the studio’s queue, it is safe to assume that the plans for the twelve are somewhere nearby.
