The making of a film about this hero has been Dwayne Johnson’s big dream for years, and he admits that when he was growing up, it was Black Adam who was the most important comic book hero for him. The road to making this film alone took more than ten years, yet his attachment to the character has remained strong throughout that time. As the actor himself sums up:
Black Adam has been part of my DNA and my soul for many, many years.
For the creators, the main goal was to screen the comic stories of Black Adam, enrich them with their own passion, add a bit of black humor and thus create a great film spectacle. They immediately knew that the choice of director could not be a coincidence – so they decided to cooperate with Jaum Collet-Serra, known to Johnson from the set of Journey into the Jungle , who turned out to be the perfect person to skillfully weave it all into an epic film story.

The director’s idea for the story of Black Adam was based on telling a story about a newcomer suddenly appearing in a world he did not know. This is a pattern known to the cinema, for example, from westerns, or reminiscent of films about policemen acting alone against the criminal underworld. The producers really liked this vision and were immediately convinced that this approach would prove satisfactory to both big comic book fans and the general cinema audience.

But Black Adam is more than just a story about an ancient god who has to face reality after 5,000 years. As Collet-Serra notes:
One of the most interesting layers of the story is an attempt to find an answer to the question of what makes a hero and who has the right to determine what justice is. I wouldn’t call Black Adam’s moral code questionable, but perhaps his moral code is simply out of date for the times we live in. He’s a sensible guy; he does everything in his own way, according to what he thinks is right.
Black Adam debuted in theaters on December 4. It will be available on Blu-ray™ and DVD on January 18.
