Dragon’s friend – review of the comic book “Enola and unusual animals”, vol. 2

Visit the Natural History Museum with us, where you will meet Enola, an extraordinary veterinarian with a heart of gold. If she doesn’t help the magical animals, who?

Joris Chamblain (script) and Lucile Thibaudier (drawings and colors) surprised us positively – the first collective volume of the Enola and unusual animals series was very well received on the Polish market. The next comic also features two stories from the world of Enola – the first is titled Hunting the Kraken , the second – The Lost Yeti . Enola has to explain why in the coastal waters there are attacks of a huge creature on fishing vessels and why this monster does not give peace to the people of the sea. Later, she visits the highest mountains in the world where the monks of the monastery live. This area has been guarded by a mighty yeti for generations. However, the snowman has recently had some problems that can only be solved by a young veterinarian.

Unusual animals – our friends

Enola’s behavior reveals her intentions – she is selflessly committed to helping animals. The series, although somewhat predictable, has already become one of my favorites – there are many magical animals here, the adventures of Enola and her faithful friend, a cat named Maneki, entertain and inspire, and the endings of the story carry important messages. In addition, the publishers – Egmont – decided to include two stories in one volume, making the comic just over 60 pages long – perfect! In the newest volume, Thibaudier’s line is captured again – strongly fairy-tale-like, fitting the concept of a fantastic world.

Visually

The hard cover draws the reader’s attention – this time Enola, dressed in a diver’s costume, tries to touch / examine the Kraken, her new pet to heal. Interestingly, this is not a graphic from the inside of the comic – the heroine’s costume is not connected to the submarine (which would be necessary in a situation where a person were to swim at certain depths underwater). The end paper shows the title character and Maneki in motion, which proves the great craftsmanship of Thibaudier – a masterpiece. The volume has been enriched with several bonus graphics showing the main characters in various situations of everyday life. In addition, information about the next volume (in preparation) appears on the last page. We see a werewolf (probably) on the cover, so we know now that things will happen!
