Does the government tax streaming platforms?

According to the magazine “Spider’s Web +”, streaming platforms such as “Netflix” or “HBO GO” are to be subject to the new tax.

The first thought after reading the article of the magazine “Spider’s Web +” – is it true or another fake?

According to the magazine, the project aims to help Polish cinematography in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. The load on VOD services (“video on demand”) is to amount to 1.5 percent. their income on the territory of Poland. The postulate to introduce a levy on streaming platforms to the act on cinematography was also submitted to the Ministry of Culture by the team for the crisis in the cinematographic industry appointed by the Polish Film Institute. Let us add that a levy of this amount is imposed on entities co-creating the film market in our country, i.e. cinematographers, distributors, TV stations and cable TV distributors. This is regulated by Art. 19 of the Cinematography Act of June 30, 2005.

At the moment, Netflix does not comment on this topic in any way
