Haunted houses and dark family secrets have been the main subject of horror films for a long time. This time, this thread was touched upon in the comic book Estate , published in our country by the Lost in Time publishing house. So let's take a look at the Blaine house and see if there's anything to be afraid of.
Mysterious house
The plot of the Estate takes place in 1974. It is then that Charles Blaine and his wife are murdered in mysterious and macabre circumstances. Two of their children getting into the care of his father’s brother, whom the idziały twice in my life. The uncle, however, intends to take care of the orphans, but having no better prospects, he lives with them in the old family estate. It turns out very quickly that it was a very bad decision. Family secrets begin to emerge, and the lives of the family and residents of the nearby town of Cape Augusta will change significantly.
A foretaste of the nightmare
Propertywas divided by the publisher into two volumes. The first is an introduction to the further adventure, a prologue intended to arouse tension in the reader and arouse curiosity. We meet the Blaines in it, a family that does not enjoy much recognition among the locals. In the past, the family senior went mad and committed suicide. His spouse, in turn, ended up in a mental hospital. Their older son, who became a recognized scientist, did a little better. Unfortunately, he was murdered. The younger son ran away from home, he had numerous problems with the law and with alcohol. Now he has to take care of the children of his tragically deceased brother. He takes them to an old house in the vicinity of a quagmire, handed down from generation to generation. There, the three of them will have to deal not only with family secrets, but also with monsters who want them dead.
This young artist perfectly understood the atmosphere of the notebook and presented us with works that reflect the darkness surrounding the characters. Dark colors dominate here, but in addition to black, we will also see a lot of dirty green, gray, purple or pale blue. Additionally, some cards have a haze effect to reflect the mystery of the comic. In turn, the emotions and moments of the action are emphasized by red. A thick, slightly raw line is a great idea to showcase your events. The illustrator also did not forget that the action takes place in 1974. Although he often overlooks background details and creates more outlines of objects, when he focuses on them, we get electronic equipment, vehicles, exhibitions, as well as clothes tailored to the 1970s.
Keep it up!
The estate is an excellent thriller that draws the reader into the story. It can be safely recommended to anyone who enjoys horror movies about haunted houses and twisted families. The atmosphere almost extends beyond the pages, and the darkness almost surrounds the reader. Although the comic’s theme is not revealing, it has the best of this type of story. This is due to both the script and the graphics. As for the first volume, it is an excellent prologue, after reading which you will immediately want to reach for the next one! The plots that have started and the secrets of the Blaine family must be cleared. I hope that will also be the case. If the creators managed to keep the level, we will have surefire success.
