The new collector’s card game received the title of Disney Lorcana . The game is described as designed for the whole family and less focused on confrontational gameplay. This is to distinguish it from such cult titles as, for example, Magic: The Gathering . In terms of style, it is to combine both computer graphics and traditional freehand graphics.
By playing, the participants take on the role of Illumineers, wizards with the power to summon Disney characters from stories and recordings. One of the goals of the game is to collect a party from the summoned characters. For now, it is not known how the game will look like. It is also not known which characters will be available. Disney owns many franchises that the brand itself can develop in any direction.
In an interview with Polygon, Ranesburger CEO Filip Francke revealed that Lorcana is one of their largest and most expensive projects. This is to be the first time Disney has allowed one of their gaming companies to use their characters in such a large card title. The game was designed by former Wizards of the Coast employee Ryan Miller. He was involved in the creation of such titles as Betrayal Legacy, Digimon Card Game and Warhammer 40,000 Collectible Card Game.
The game will be officially presented on September 9 during this year’s Disney convention – D23.
