Ariel in the comic world
The comic adaptation of the film The Little Mermaid comes to the reader with a well-known story – the youngest daughter of King Triton falls in love with a human prince, Erik. In order for them to be together, Ariel, the title Mermaid, must ask the underwater witch Urszula for help. She speaks Arielka’s voice and, in return, turns her tail into her legs so that she can reach her lover more easily. The women, however, sign a pact that the insidious Ursula prepared in such a way as to finally take over the entire ocean, deceiving the Mermaid. So the redhead is facing a real challenge – she must somehow destroy the evil witch’s plans.
The plot of the comic book will come as no surprise to anyone – it is identical to the one in the movie, with minor differences in translation. The story of The Little Mermaid is certainly timeless, although the adult reader will probably get bored. After all, we all know its ending. For a young recipient, however, such a comic can be intriguing in terms of plot, especially if he has not seen a full-length Disney animation.
A classic fairy tale in a refreshed edition
The comic book version of The Little Mermaid is certainly aesthetically worth paying attention to. A beautiful cover, short descriptions of each important character in the middle, and finally a chapter Memories with illustrations depicting situations in Ariel’s life make the comic book unique. Every little one will be interested in these few accessories.
It is difficult to say anything more about the illustrations because their style is exactly the same as in the movie.
The return of the “Little Mermaid”
The Little Mermaid comic book will surely please young Disney fans. The story of the youngest daughter, Tryton, still raises important issues: an overprotective father, a seemingly impossible love (but it is worth fighting for), and sacrifice.
In my opinion, this is not a product for adult readers, unless someone intends to collect Disney comics. There are already six such albums available : The Lion King , 101 Dalmatians, Tramp in Love, Mulan , Aladdin and of course The Little Mermaid , and another one will be released soon – about Snow White . This edition will certainly look good on the shelf.
However, it is worth bearing in mind that this is just a printed movie . The plot is no different from the screen prototype, so it is not necessarily worth reaching for the book only because of the story.
