We are less than a month away from the debut of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power , the Prime Video series, which will be a bold extension of JRR Tolkien’s cult fantasy novels. The show will take place thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings , spanning territory that is only occasionally mentioned in the books – meaning fans are sure to be curious to see what tone the show will eventually take.

In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Rings of Power executive JA Bayona said that Tolkien’s embodiment of “optimism and love” was a top priority in implementing the narrative.

“When you read Tolkien’s books, you can tell how much he appreciates beauty, so the show is full of beauty. Tolkien is optimistic, warm and emotional by nature. He is a man who went through some of the darkest events in human history [during the First World War] and did not write a desperate, terrible story, ”Bayona said.

„[Tolkien] napisał historię o nadziei i małej istocie odnoszącej sukces. Zawsze czuliśmy, że to zasada numer jeden, że musi istnieć prawdziwy optymizm i miłość, nawet w najmroczniejszych, najstraszniejszych momentach serialu” – wyjaśnił Bayona.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings , during the Second Age of Middle-earth. It begins in a time of relative peace after defeating Morgoth, Master Sauron. The series follows the lives and adventures of the band members and promises to visit the Misty Mountains, the forest capital of the elves of Lindon, and the coastlines of the island kingdom of Númenor.

The series has an extensive cast, including Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman and Sara Zwangobani.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will debut on Prime Video on September 2. The platform has already announced the second season of the series.
