Although the adaptation of Ubisoft games for Netflix has become quiet recently, the director confirms that the film is still being made.
In 2016, for the first time, we heard about the set of the film adaptation of The Division game . Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain will star in the production. The film was directed and written by Stephen Gaghan ( Gold ), who won the Academy Award . Soon after, however, he left the project, and in April 2018 the baton will be taken over by David Leitch ( Deadpool 2 , Hobbs & Shaw ). Unfortunately, some time later the movie Division got quiet and new news stopped coming.
Leitch, however, reassures fans who are waiting for the game to be adapted for Netflix. As it turns out, the project has not been canceled and is still to be implemented. We will have to wait a long time for the premiere. According to the creator, work is still underway on the script of the painting.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director was very enthusiastic about working on The Division :
I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan of video games, but there are definitely a few that I enjoy. In The Division, I like the concept of people uniting to rebuild a fallen civilization. […]
I love the material we are working on and I love the opportunity with these amazing actors (Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain).
Leitch also admitted he liked the potential they had to use in action scenes. The director stated that many of the scenes he worked on on John Wick and Atomic Blonde seemed to fit The Division perfectly .
At the moment it is not known when the movie may be released, but fans should be patient.
